So after successfully switching my tank, my next step is to transfer my tank
decal protector/sticker from my old tank to my new one.

What is the best way to get it to stick and stay on the new tank?

TIA

Bugger me Boxer, for someone that owns squillions of bikes you know
very little. Everyone in the know uses stainless steel staples.

I wouldn't bother.  It will never be as good as on the original tank
and it's not like they cost heaps.

Heat it up to get the glue sticky.  It will restick when it cools down.

Yeah, a blue flame will be far too hot.  A yellow flame will be the
right temperature, but the decal will get all sooty.

We don't have that new-fangled stuff here Johno, but I can lend him a
high-volume kero torch.

Good grief!

This must be a first for aus.moto, a tool, implement or device that Theo
doesn't have at least three, big, medium and tiny.

Bet that George W. has an oxy torch in his shed. ;-)

Yup, I had two kero torches, but one is lost somewhere. I paid $4 for
it too. (back when I was living in the seventies).

I'm a Melbournian orginally.  I just saw the light and came over here.
After the lobotomy you never look back.

Get yourself a new protector, cost $20
worth nothing compared to swapping to another tank
Kiva - 18 Nov 2008 06:22 GMT
It's not so much the cost of a new protector but the sentimental attachment
to the design of my old one :)

Are you still talking about a Tank Protector?

IF a tank protector is the material sticker thing that attaches on the front
of your tank where otherwise your belt would scratch the tank then yes
