Got any idea where I can find the spring compressor to compress the springs
for the limited slip clutchs in a 'vette rear end?
The Snap-On guy is a flake and won't stop at our shop, and the Matco guy
didn't have one in the catalog we looked at.
18 years I worked at GM dealers and it was always a dealer supplied tool
there, now I gotta buy one.

No help from me I'm sorry to say. I've never run into the occasion to need a
tool like that (yet). When I don't have something and it's not readily
available locally I usually look online or make the tool I need. Sorry I
couldn't help.

but I will ask the local snap on guy if you want me to. He's pretty good but
snap on has been slow in sending some tools lately.

I got with the local Matco guy on Friday and he was no help.  I don't know
what's up with Snap-On.  He stopped by back before last Christmas and I
haven't seen him since.  I've left messages on his phone and told him I've
got about $300 worth of stuff I need, but I guess he doesn't need the money
that bad.  Took a knife from me, was supposed to get it fixed for me and
disappeared.
I have a J number for the tool out of the service manual, but the Kent-Moore
site doesn't list it any more.  I'm sure it's not a Corvette specific tool,
but a special tool for posi rear ends.  Heck, I can't even find one on Ebay.

To make a long story short, I have never been impressed by their sales
staff or their executives.  Nice tools but shitty service once they
have your money!

Mechanic's have come to depend on that truck showing up and the rep
staying on top of their needs. Sadly in today's economy that sort of
service has disappeared, I have found I can make most of the tools I
need in less time than the truck can bring them.

With the current economy I would expect to see further reductions in
service as the local reps go belly up feeding fuel to the truck and
eating credit extended to wrenches that are going broke and flaking.

I would not be surprised to see Snapon change over to an entirely
internet based sales model with in house credit cards, as it becomes
more and more difficult to keep sales reps. Service might actually
improve as there would be no middle man and only one week wait instead
of 2 for warehouse orders.

call snap on if you have to, they will tell you what is up with the
dealer, or order it online ,  have you looked at napa? or otc? (I
don;t think I've seen one at otc come to think of it but it;s been a
whole bunch of years now)

Heh, I even stopped at a tool truck pulled into the Firestone when my wife
and I went to the mall yesterday.  She just shook her head and walked into
the mall.  Found her in Kay's Jewelers when I got done.

Can you order it from Snap-On direct????

I've got a Snap-On distribution center local to me and they allow
walk-in/counter sales (or used to)........

Yeah, us too, but it ain't even in the catalog.  Or Matco's Catalog, or OTC.
Hell, Kent-Moore doesn't even list it on their web site.  I'm gonna call the
service manager I used to work for and give him the J number and see what he
can do...he was on vacation last week.

See if you can find out who the district rep is and call him. I called and
asked them how was I supposed to get my Snap On sh.t warrantied since the guy
only comes once or twice a month. There hasn't been anymore of that since. If
you're on his route he has to stop, Snap On will not let him choose not to even
if you don't buy sh.t from him every week.

I passed the distribution center yesterday, but by then it was after hours.
I think I'll make a phone call today.
