I purchased the ZX-14 peg lowering kit from Corbin. It was fairly
pricey, and was supposed to work with all years and be powder coated.
To my dismay, I found the finish of the parts to be so thin the steel
was exposed during careful installation. And the right side wouldn't
mount because the brake master cylinder contacts the exhaust pipe
(exhaust system listed as "tested and compatible" basically) so you
can't bolt the bracket to the bike.
I sent email to tech support explaining this, no reply. I sent email
to sales, no reply. I sent email to the factory, no reply.
Today, I called and got sales (after waiting 20 minutes on hold for
tech support and being shunted to voicemail) and was told Corbin QUOTE
"has no return policy". In other words, I have to keep trying to
contact tech support (which never answers the phone) and whatever they
tell me I have to live with.
I believe that in California where Corbin is headquartered, such
policies are a violation of business laws. I know for a fact they are
in the State I live in.
To say a defective product cannot be returned is unethical at best.
I won't tell you to or not to do business with Corbin, only what has
factually happened to me just this week.
I will never buy from Corbin again.

If you purchased via credit card, you may be able to have the charge
reversed. I think the clauses are "more than 50 miles from home", "tried in
good faith ..." and "within 60 days" (or perhaps 30).

That's awful. And the company has a good reputation from what I've
heard.

They have a good reputation for building quality products. They have a
*terrible* reputation for the way they deal with their customers.
That said, when the latch on my Corbin Gunfighter''s hatch went belly-up
after only a year, I called them and was told "We got a batch of defective
latches. Give us your name and address and we'll send you a new one."
They did. Quickly. And absolutely free.
It's now been eight years, and the replacement latch is still working just
fine.

Ayup. There are many stories of horrible customer relations.
I bought a saddle from them. I went to the factory. They were great -
letting me take test ride after test ride to make sure the foam was
cut right. The saddle turned out great. But they'd neglected to
replace the bungee hooks that were on the original ST1100 saddle. I
had to argue for 10 minutes with Mike Corbin himself to get them to
put the hooks on. I was on a tour, and all my gear was sitting in
their parking lot, and he was trying to figure out a way to tie my
bags on without the hooks. After all that, the saddle was the best
I've ever seen.
The only way I'd buy anything from them is to go to the factory and
make sure they gave me exactly what I wanted.

Yep; afaik this has been common knowledge in the general motorcycling
community for at least a decade. I won't bore anyone with the
details, but your experience is representative of mine and that of
many of my friends, almost all of us early and enthusiastic Corbin
customers, but no longer. I think they do just fine with new people
coming into the community.

In 1990, I bought a Gunfighter seat for my K75S from them at their
vendor display at the MOA National Rally in Rapid City. It fit
perfectly, and to this day is still in fine shape and does the job very
well.
In 1998, I wanted a similar seat for an R100RT, so I again visited them
at that year's rally in Rhinebeck, NY. The guy pulls a seat out of the
big trailer, and installs it. Whoa. Looking from the rear, I see a close
fit at the right side of the cowling, and an inch-and-a-half gap on the
left side. The pan is twisted. He had no explanation.

There's lots of other custom saddle makers out there. I bought a Corbin
for my CB900C and asked them to make it 1" higher than stock. I think
they misunderstood my request and made it 1" LOWER. It was comfortable
enough but moved my heels even closer to my butt which made riding the
bike less comfortable than it should have been. I should have sent it
back but I had already sold the stock seat and didn't want to be off
my bike during our short riding season. I won't bother giving Corbin my
business again. The next saddle I ordered was a Russell Day-Long for my
soon-to-be-sold Concours. All went according to plan and they were very
easy to deal with on the phone the couple of times I called them. YMMV.

Why people continue buying from them is baffling. Their CS sucks. Remember
their car called the Sparrow? A lot of people who bought that car got left
in the cold.

Good for you!
I hate hearing that sh.t. There are saddle shops that would jump through
flaming hoops to get your business. And, build you a seat, customized for
your a.s, for less than Corbin charges. Cee Bailey will do that, for one.
No return policy my a.s (no pun intended).
