A young guy on a Honda Silverwing MC about the same vintage as
Geraldine pulled in behind me at the one filling station in town where
you can buy gasoline instead of gasohol. I asked him what he thought
of running gasohol through the Kehin carbs, and he said that's why he
had taken the trouble to turn in there, the implication being he
didn't think much of it.
I guessing that the gasoline in Sheboygan County is oxygenated almost
to the same degree as the gasohol. It all burns lean IMNSHO -- lots
of stumbling under acceleration particularly when cold and lots of
missing at the city-street speed limit of 25 mph in second gear, which
is ameliorated by lugging down the engine in third. Gasoline just
seems to burn a little better, but the effect could be all in my head.
I'll tell you what cures the problems, though: Riding a day or two
west.

Using E10 could cause some problems in hot weather due to increased
vapor locking and in cold weather riding due to phase separation of
the alcohol from the gasoline and the water held in solution by the
alcohol may wind up in the bottom of your float bowl. Your carbs would
be more prone to icing.
The FAA doesn't like gasohol and neither does the Experimental
Aircraft Association...

FAA Warns STC Holders Against Ethanol In Auto Fuel
November 1, 2006 — The FAA has issued a Special Airworthiness
Information Bulletin (SAIB), warning aircraft owners and operators
with auto fuel supplemental type certificates to ensure the fuel they
use does not contain alcohol (ethanol or methanol). The SAIB
reinforces EAA's ongoing efforts to ensure availability of compliant
autogas by heading off or modifying legislative attempts in several
states to require ethanol in all gasolines sold.
EAA, one of two primary sources of automobile gasoline STCs for
general aviation aircraft, advocates that at the very least, states
should exempt premium grade fuel from ethanol mandates to ensure a
readily available and safe fuel supply for aircraft.
The FAA cites numerous reasons that alcohol and airplanes do not mix.
Alcohol:
Adversely affects the volatility of auto gasoline, which could cause
vapor lock.
Is corrosive and not compatible with the rubber seals and other
materials used in aircraft, which could lead to fuel system
deterioration and malfunction.
Is subject to phase separation, which happens when the fuel is cooled
as an aircraft climbs to higher altitudes. When the alcohol separates
from the gasoline, it may carry water that has been held in solution
and that cannot be handled by the sediment bowl.
Reduces the energy content of the fuel. Methanol has approximately 55
percent of the energy content of gasoline, ethanol 73 percent. More
alcohol equals reduced range.
(But E10 is 90% gasoline and 10% alcohol, so 0.90 + 0.73 = 0.973.
Apparently your range or power output would only be reduced by 2.7%.)
http://www.faa.gov/aircraft/safety/alerts/saib/media/CE-07-06.pdf has
a water absorbtion test that indicates how much alcohol is present in
gasohol of unknown composition...

Yeah - just what you said. Don't stop in traffic or vapor lock will
kill it. Rust corrosion also a problem but slower. You don't ever
want to keep a bike sitting there with gasohol in it if you aren't
running it.
Take gasahol in a calibrated cylinder (chemical supply shop or make
one) pour in 50% fuel, top with water and shake - see where the
meniscus is between the gas and water after shaking - that's the
gasoline content. - old sport fisherman trick.

The MoCo sez max 10% ethanol in my fuel injected motor
and it seems to run ok.

I get 11-12% less gas mileage.

Or move where they don't put crap in the gas. ;^) I'm amazed at all
the people who think gasahol is an answer. There is NO practical way
to make enough. Not when they waste Natural Gas to make it or divert
food crops for production. We'd be better off with one of the synth
gas made from coal or biomass from a dump.
I figured out the impracticality of gasahol back in the 90's.

We had the crap in the 70's gas shortages. Didn't like it then and it is no
better now. Rust out gas tanks and lines, runs up the cost of my Cheerios.

I came across a guy riding a CX 650 Turbo in Downieville, CA yesterday.
Beautiful bike, looked showroom fresh.
