McCain announced his pick for VP today and it was the surprise choice of the
current Alaskan governor, Sarah Palin. The connection to RSS is that her
husband, Todd Palin, is a professional snowmobile racer who has won the
IronDog 2000 4 times. He's run Arctic Cats lately, but started out on
Polaris, and ran Yamaha for one year.
Let's say that she is elected VP, and that a VPs spouse gets Secret Service
protection. Let's also say that he enters the 2009 IronDog. Do you suppose
there are any competitive Secret Service snowmobile racers, or will they
make Todd run a two-up sled with the Secret Service on the back.

I don't know about that but... this may be a blessing for you in the US that
are facing restricted or prohibited National Parks use for snowmobiles
(a.go. Yellowstone). This is assuming her and McCain win the election.
Apparently she is also an avid sledder.

I was kind of looking at McCain as the "lesser of two evils" right up
until he picked Palin. Now it's "Game on!" for me.

The dirt diggers have been hard at work... Her 17 year old daughter is
pregnant. Kinda flies in her face since she is a pro-abstinence wonk.
McCain may not have known about it until after picking her.
Just give it time. More dirt to come (although I think family matters
should be off limits).

Even the most conservative families have an "illegitimate" child
somewhere on the tree... I would be really surprised if the daughter's poor
judgment will reflect too negatively on the mother. It happens. The fact
that she intends to keep the baby and marry the father goes a long, long way
toward "smoothing" that whole thing over with most people, I think.
I don't think Palin will convince many Obama supporters to vote
republican... but I wouldn't be surprised to see a huge "bump" in voter
turnout among sportsman and conservative women voters; plus she might just
steal a whole boatload of Hillary supporters who hate the way the democrats
treated her and have sworn not to vote for Obama.
The women in my family have hunted and fished their whole lives... and
while they might not identify with anything McCain has to say; I think they
certainly will listen when Palin speaks. The "message" is only meaningful
if you can get people to listen. >;-}

She is one of us. As far as her pregnant kid goes, at least she did not
disown her or talk her into terminating. Shows an uncommon lot of charactor
for a politican.
I don't think she will sway many Hillary voters, but she will bring a lot of
people out to vote.

I'm in the same boat as you David
