Been riding bikes all my life from little 3.5HP briggs to my now
GSX-R750 and I think the MSF course was great I learned allot and there
were more than one person there bragging about how much they new and you
can tell they had no clue what they were doing. I fact two failed
because they fell. I think the course should be the test it would make
allot more safe riders. I recommend it to any rider especially new ones
they can walk away with the knowledge to stay safe. You are correct most
of the guys were getting or had big cruisers. In my state (Pa) they
supply little 125's and 250's for the test. I could not imagine going
from never riding a bike to a 20,000+ dollar Harley but people do it.
Not basing HD I own a 1987 but man is it heavy I can't imagine it as my
fist bike I would of laid it down for sure.
How was the Intermediate??? Here in Pa. the intermediate is not a pass
fail thing it just teaches better skills for faster riding I was
thinking of taking it.

I have only taken the first class. I want to go to the second class, maybe
at the end of summer. when I got my license, I really wanted to get the
Ducati ST4. I went down to the dealership and test road a used one (after
only taking the MSF class. After stalling the thing three times in a row,
taking it down to the end of the street, stallling it three more times,
making a U turn and returning it. I knew I was being dumb and knew I would
hurt myself on that bike. Got the SV650s instead, Still a v-twin, its been a
great bike, but still want that ST4! Now with some miles behind me, I would
feel a lot more confident on the big bike now.

In Massachusetts, it is if you already have the learner's permit and
pre-pay the license fee.

I'm in VT.
It was pretty much like one day of the riding in basic.. but the
curriculum was different this year.
I didn't have to take the test, but since some of the people were
nervous (and I didn't feel they needed to be) I decided I'd take it and
go first... to help them ease in.
One exercise that waqs new was doing double Uies in a small rectangle...
ya got 3 points off for touching the sides. Yikes. I touched once,
just BARELY, but it's not horseshoes, so I lost 3 points.

Also was aother cool one I liked... break before a narrow path and ride
through it using only clutch control.
It's also more laid back knowing I don't NEED to pass another test..
hehe (especially since I'm back in school and stress enough about the
next linear algebra quiz/test). :)

The "slow ride"? When I took the beginner's course last year, it
wasn't "only using clutch control", it was "slow and straight". The
instructors said to use the clutch so you can rev high for the
gyroscopic effect it gives and still only creep along.
I think that one has a minimum time to go through as well as the
standard "don't touch the lines".
