Kurt - 24 Sep 2004 23:06 GMT I like to ride fast. Usually 10 or 100 over the speed limit. Every time I'm on a back road and cars get back up and no passing can be make, I find that it's a couple of guys doing less than the speed limit on there cool Harleys.

Young bull says "I'm gonna run down this hill and screw one of those heifers", Old bull says, "knock yourself out son, I'm gonna *walk* down the hill and screw 'em *all*". When you've attained wisdom you'll understand that the best part of a ride isn't in the arrival but in the "getting there".

Kurt - 25 Sep 2004 00:38 GMT But I AM wise, Master. I like to ride my bike the way it was meant to ride. FAST & FURIOUS I'm also wise enough to consider this a SPORTBIKE forum. And if it rains, I'll roll up the window. Now, I just trailer the ZX10R to the fast & furious roads. f.ck that *walk* when you can RUN.

If you are riding more than moderately fast on the public roads you are a moron...Why?
Because you cannot predict what will be in the road in front of you soon enough to avoid it. The future for such riders is dim.
If you want to ride real fast take it to the track.

Beside, I wish to 'engage' in conversation, but those Harleys are way to loud. I DO like to toy with them and get one to TRY to keep up. I have some friends and aquiantances who ride and own Harleys. We joke about this very subject. Horsepower & Torque. "What about the torque" they would say. A little about my background. I've always been into speed. I want the fastest cars, dirtbikes, jetskies and sportbikes. I started out years ago in motorcycles and drag racing. Always loved drag racing of any kind. Mechanically, I do most of my own work. In High School I took Auto Mechanic classes and later in a small tech school - Engine Rebuild. So I understand most engine technology but don't know it all. I've always been confussed with torque and horsepower, expecially in bikes. I also have a Ford truck and an Eclipse, I DO understand that torque is GREAT for the truck, but what about the car or bike? Torque is pure power and horsepower needs RPM. Kind of like a drill and a Dremel for cutting. Now, back to the comparison of the S&S with 168HP and my ZX10R. Two totally different machines. Let me ask you. Where does torque come in? I have nothing against ANY bike. I just love a good race and this is one race I'd love. Lane one: heavy, high torque twin. Lane two: light, high HP inline quad. BTW. My torque is 80 @ 10k. and have never been beat by any twin. My bike's best times in the quarter is high nines (stock). But, not by me. I don't drag race this bike.

I don't drag race or actually road race. I'm just a novice sportbike rider. Out for my own gratification. I had been playing with the idea of building a street legal dragbike, just to show those guys who extend their swingarms and polish their frames what a "REAL DRAGBIKE" is supposed to be. Those can be passed easily enough...if you have the skills of course... if not, and you just like to ride fast, but are not good enough to past a line of cruizer bikes... then you are riding way over your head and in the direction of becoming a statistic.
If you think you are fast, take it to track and find out... you might be surprised when some young lady toasts you though the turns then leaves you in dust down the front straight.
Those who like to brag about riding fast on the public roads in my experience ( 40+years now) are uusally really bad riders, and slow as well.
One moron I met years ago was bragging how he rode 120 mph on his 350 honda,,,, so we went out for a ride and swing onto the freeway...I had it kicked up to 75 or so and couldnt see the the guy.... he was terrified hanging on for dear life and afraid to go any faster than 60
thats typical.
Those who ride real well dont brag about it or trash other riders...thats a loosers characteristic.

As you mature and gain real competence, you loose the need to look for someone to trash. Instead you understand that some people like riding slower than others...and all that is fine... and you learn how to pass anoither bike in the same lane safely...so you are never held up by slower riders.

I personally despise open pipes and if I was a cop I'd be taking them down every chance I get just for the fun of it. And if they back talk me just once or even give me a dirty look, the tow truck will me coming to pick up their hog.
After all, you and most of your friends are in law enforcement, right?
You did just write the following a little while ago:

Of course being "in law enforement" could mean you hose the vomit and fecal matter out of the cells every morning. Hopefully though, you're a law enforcement *officer* (and not a janitor at the local PD) that can take down those "loud pipes save lives" idiots and restore some peace to the community.

It's hard to enforce a noise ordinance. I just love fuckin' with 'em. It's funny that sportbike riders are discrimated more than Harley riders. Any time there is a massive sportbike gathering, local cops come and chase everyone away.
