header torque specs?

Getting a funny smell (as Troy can attest to) from the new Gixxer. Hard to
tell if it's just heat or not. Doesn't smell like oil. Smells sort of like
anti-freeze, but I've torn all the farings off (most difficult faring
removal I've EVER had on a sport bike... but that's another story) There are
NO leaks at all. It was spotless to begin with, and I sprayed the whole
thing down with brake cleaner to make sure. Washed it and fired it up...
same smell. Only thing I can think of is that maybe the headers aren't quite
tight. I was able to get a quarter turn out of a couple of bolts that I
could reach. Anyone know the torque specs or have any other ideas of what
this mysterious smell could be?

I had that problem with my Daytona for a while.  I could never pin it down.
I figured perhaps the radiator cap was leaking, or perhaps a pinhole in a
tube somewhere.  Check to make sure the overflow cap is on tight.

I eventually just stopped worrying about it and it went away.

Perhaps when they changed fluids prior to you buying they spilled some
antifreeze on the headers or something.

Are you exceeding the normal operating temps?

Also, some bike just smell different than others.

It is.

Hoping that will work

Cleaned all the pipes, still getting the smell

Rode it for 4 hours on Sunday, never saw it go over 181.

Yeah, Harleys stink... oh you meant literally!

Thanks for your input. Hoping it's just something that will go away.

New as in brand new zero mileage bike you just bought from the dealer?
If so, that's just the new bike smell.  Not as pleasant as new car
smell.

I'll never forget the ride home from the dealer on my new Busa.  The
smell was nearly enough to make me puke while at each stop light.  If
you idle the bike at night you'll probably see a haze drifting from
the bike as the oils burn off.  It's not engine oil, just what
castings are coated with.  It's possible the paint on the headers is
adding to the smell too.
It slowly fades and after a few hundreds miles it will be gone.

I don't know the torque specs for your particular bike, but on the
Busa the header bolts are 16.5 ft lbs.

It's not brand new, but it only had 1350 miles on it when I bought it. And
the guy REALLY babied it. Never took it above 8000RMP and huge stripes on
the sides of the tires.
Didn't know the torque was so low on exhaust headers, thanks.

There is no torque spec... you keep after them and make sure they stay
banjo tight... but don't go overboard because if you keep crushing the
white gasket it will get thin enough to leak...

Suzuki employs a white synthetic asbestos looking gasket whereas Honda
employs hollow copper rings... I've used Suzuki superior gasket on many
of my Hondas...

The smell is likely Suzuki's choice in hoses... give them a sniff check
after they heat up to know for sure...

It smell could be coming from around the hoses, I'm hoping its something
simple like that.
