I have to say if Yamaha builds this bike I think they would have a
winner.

I guess if you like current US automotive design, it might be
a winner. Thing's as ugly as a new Cadillac.

It seems with this bike either you love it or you hate it. I like the
big five valve single myself.

Some are saying it looks like a Buell. I don't see where it does. I
like the idea of a naked light powerful single for the street. I ride
with a guy that has an MV Augusta with perhaps the same 5 valve Yamaha
motor as this proto type.

Buells have underseat exhausts? Rear shocks that cross the frame? A
thumper motor? Dual wave rotor discs? A radiator? A gas tank? A
rectangular headlight? Sete Gibernau rims? Uber ground clearance?
Oh wait, I see it's got UJM ergonomics. Yup, no self respecting Japanese
manufacturer builds a bike with sensible street riding ergonomics
anymore. Must be a Buell knockoff.

... you sound like a typical techie who's looking at
all the individual components. when i glance at the
pic, i'm looking at the bike, overall, without regard
to the individual pieces, similar to how a person
would look at a car, without looking under the hood
and inside the car.
and what i see is this sort of 'stumpy' looking thing.

Interesting. Sort of a 21st century SRX-6. I kind of like it.

Geez, it looks like a Buell. I read somewhere that they even designed it so
that now and again it breaks bolts just to get that same Buell feeling.

Clever. Is your wife helping you post these days?
