Greenspan to French finmin: US lost deficit control

Sunday September 25, 4:32 AM EDT

By Paul Carrel

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan told
France's Finance Minister Thierry Breton the United States has "lost
control" of its budget deficit, the French minister said on Saturday.

"'We have lost control,' that was his expression," Breton told reporters
after a bilateral meeting with Greenspan.

"The United States has lost control of their budget at a time when
racking up deficits has been authorized without any control (from
Congress)," Breton said.

"We were both disappointed that the management of debt is not a
political priority today," he added...

Thierry Breton (known in France as Breton le cretin - no translation needed)
is just trying to find comfort for his own huge financial problems. We're
going broke, you're going broke, let's all feel good about it...  Geez, you
wanna see what these idiots have done to my tax bill!

Well, when you get to a to marginal all-up tax rate of 76%  (geez, I wish
this was joke, but it aint) let me know. Compared to France, the USA is like
The Caymans.

76%?!?!!!!! How is that? You mean like a combination of all taxes
combined? Sales, local, federal, fuel and the like. You guys need to have
your own tea party. Man that has to be tough to pay all that money to
the gummint.  We pay more than enough over here though and when I look
at my paycheck and see my deductions I just cringe.

We probably aren't that far behind them it's just that much of our
taxing is cleaverly hidden. Think about corporate taxes, do you think a
"corporate" legal document cares that it's being taxed? Of course not,
the costs of that taxation are paid for by higher prices for consumers
and lower wages for the workers. You add up your income taxes, property
taxes, sales taxes, SSI, medicare, state taxes, local taxes, licensing
taxes, cigarette taxes, cell phone taxes, hotel taxes, (and a hundred
more if I felt like typing the rest of the night) and I'll kiss your a.s
if even the middle of the road guys in the US aren't paying WELL over
50% of our incomes in taxes.
