As long as you continue to stay away from those things....that's all
good. Good job!

You gotta set a good example for Triple-G!

I quit twelve years, three months, five days, forteen hours, seven minutes,
and twelve seconds ago, but I never think about it any more.

hahaha.....good luck, but I'd say 'cut back' before you 'give up'. And
don't forget to dump alcohol, caffene and fatty foods at the same time.

If you are going to feel like sh.t, you might as well REALLY feel like sh.t.

Of course that may cause a new bad habit of killing people...

Wrong approach Brian...you can't just "cut back".

My father went from 3 packs a day to 0 over night....only way.

If you are gonna do it, either DO IT, or DON'T. Anything else is just
fooling yourself.

As Yoda said, "Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try."

When 900 years you reach, smell as good, you will not.

I would have thought that going down to half a pack a day is better than
2 packs a day?

Sure you can. I went from nearly two packs a day down to one, down to 1/2,
down to three or four a day, and then quit with no problems. Took me about
six months total.

That was over twelve years ago and I've never smoked since, so I don't think
that I'm "fooling myself".

Phew!....thats how my mother quit.....she went from 2 packs of 25 a day
and weaned herself off them completely over a year.

It was her habit that put me off them as a youngster, and even when I
tried to smoke at high school, I just couldn't get into it.

But if you want to have a smoke at my place, go for it....just use the
garage!

If you *do* manage to end up at zero..that's fine. Most people though
don't from what I have seen. Virtually everyone that has given me the
"cut back" bs is back to where they were within a very short time as
they then find "reasons" to justify why they can't cut back at the
moment.

You are right, it may not be impossible to do it by cutting back...but
not many people have that discipline.

That's why I say either do it or don't...

After trying several times to quit, I finally got it right 12 years ago. I could
never cut down, and I had to quit by going to zero. I am still amazed that years
later I would still think about it occassionally.

BTW, did you get my return email?  It didn't bounce, but I was wondering if
I got the address right.

Yeah I got it, thanks for replying.  I am busy talking the wife into the
classes for my birthday! :-)

I am quitting smoking now in hopes of shedding some weight to get back
in my leathers.  Diet and exercise, but you can't really exercise on the
smokes.  I just got in the Seattle 100 again, so my goal is to lose 20
lbs. by 7-20.

I will be positively svelte by the time you and CSS roll into town in
Oct.  :)

I'm not going Troy's route of expando leathers!

Nah, I wouldn't either.  I guess since he's off-line we can talk about him!

Don't overlook weight training. Easier to do whilst recovering from
the smokes and very efficient at burning flab. I had put on a few over
the winter and I'm losing around 1lb./day just hitting weights (ok so
it's a Bowflex LOL), eating adequate protein whilst avoiding empty
calories. Since I started working out I'm eating more calories than
usual and more meals.

I also eat a lot of fiber to fill me up. Makes you go like a Ninja
too! vrooooooooom!

I understand this is a very hard habit to break but it can be done.
My in laws both quit. I had to deal with the mother in law during the
process but we will save that for another thread. :-) My wife just
quit two weeks ago prior to back surgery. So far no exchanging of gun
fire knock on wood.  I bet you will feel like a new man after a few
months of being smokeless. Good luck to you.

Regards

Mike
