Been having lots of trouble with my comcast cable modem service recently, so
I picked up a DSL line and will be dropping the cable modem within the next
week or so. And because DSL is cheaper, and makes up for that by being
slower too, its icing on the cake feature is no newsgroup access.

Such is life.

So I'll be signing off for awhile, don't know when I'll pick up another ISP
which has newsgroup access, or if I'll go out and just purchase access from
another provider. Either way, I have discovered over the past week or two, I
have more time when I don't post, I don't plan what I'm going to say while
riding my recent  220 mile trip  on the VStrom yesterday, and in general I
didn't seem to mind at all.

Plus family vacation is coming up, I have a cross country
motorcycle/camping/scenery trip to start packing for, so I'll try and stop
back in later in the summer to see how everyone is doing.

See ya.  Have a good summer and enjoy the DL.

Usenet is like heroin.  You'll be back. Hehe.

I'll miss your insights.  And a big thanks for educating me about group
rides.  Not worth the risk.

I'mma gonna. After the cross country trippin, it'll either still be here, or
it won't.

I will. I've left before. Breaks are nice. Particularly in the summer where
its better riding weather.

I'll be back around once everything settles down and school gets ready to
start up for the kids again probably.

No newsgroup access? that sucks! Who is this fly-by-nite ISP anyway?! I've
got Verizon DSL. Yeah, I'm told it's slower thn cable but it's plenty fast
enough for me, and a heck of a lot faster than dial-up.

Well, Have a safe trip with the fam and all. Hope you get back online soon.

Qwest. They don't really offer themselves as an ISP, just a connection to
MSN premium. Not sure what they offer, but I haven't really pushed too hard
yet either. As long as I can get to internet in geneal I'm happy.

I'll be back later in the summer probably. Don't know how yet, but its nice
not worrying about it right now.

You can get newsgroup access with DSL...  I'm doing it.

Just let me know if you need help.  As long as you can run Outlook Express,
you can get newsgroup access.

Outlook Express is what I use anyway. How do I hook it to Usenet when the
ISP doesn't offer access? And I hate what Google has done with
groups....yick.

See my other post...  I use the account at home, work andeven have it set up
at my parent's house in the event I'm there and want to check anythin out.
I use Outlook Express.   Other readers are supposedly better but for my
purposes, OE is fine.

Have a good time. If you are around (I mean within 150-200 miles
distance) let me know (leszczynscy at yahoo dot com).

BTW AFAIK google offers pretty decent groups web based access ... no
need for a special service ...

Cheers,
A.

Giganews...nuff said...for someone like you the less than 10 bucks a

news.CIS.DFN.DE is who I use, I have access wherever I go within reason,
it's very reliable, no delays on posts, works with every newsreader I've
tried and only costs a whopping $10 per year...  No binaries groups though
so you will have to find the nudies elsewhere...

This weekend, its shakedown ride through Rocky Mountain National Park. They
open it up around Memorial Day weekend, and it opened early this year, plus
its going to be 90F down here in the lowlands ( 6000' ).

Just take up Stephen Rose on his offer for GIGANEWS or do GOOGLE. It
seems to work better than it used to.

My cable has actually speeded up with a new modem @ $60 from COX. Almost
7KBps /.5KBps down/up loads and recently bought their HDTV service +
DVR. I don't have to work so I might as well have a good cable setup.
