Honda requested the services of the head Honda sportbike project
engineer when designing the last edition Goldwing. Wanting to combine
great handling, luxurious comfort, and superior luggage capacity the
last version of Goldwing was good, but still lacking.

This year, Honda consulted me. And here for the first time anywhere, I
present to you a  prototype of the Goldwing perfected:

Those Gold Whiners won't like it a bit.

No cup holders.
No tall antenna mast.
No place to tie on a stuffed animal.
Too light in weight.
Missing trailer hitch.

Nope. Won't do.

....but that trunk looks to be the right size...maybe still too small?

Love that top box. Does it have blinking brake lights like our local
busses? Givi, not Ducati, No?

Nah, the red thing is only a reflector. No light at all.

I recently learned that Nonfango (the former Duc pannier supplier) went
out of business. Givi now makes everything for Ducati. They have some
licensing agreement where everything is sold with only Ducati labels
though.

Cool! BTW, the new Sprints are going for $13,000 OTD with ABS & side
bags incl. There's a dealer in Sacto that was advertising them with bags
for 10,500 (no-ABS) before tax -n- license. The new bags look almost as
seamless as my 01. Also, I guess they fixed a few of the other niggling
problems people had with the 05-(1st year new bike) and they're starting
to get better reviews and even winning some of the ST shoot-outs. Then
you can pick up a brand new VFR for about $12,000 OTD but no fancy
stuff, just that tiny (by today's standards) 781cc engine, no heated
grips or lectrics & bags are extra last I heard.Still, the VFR is a cool
bike (keep the linked brakes though) if you're never ridden one. They're
a lot like the pre 05 Sprints but a bit more nimble. I've never ridden a
ST4 or 3s but I've heard they're the top "small" ST ride. I never liked
the priller Futura. Too shakey and lacked the top end punch of my
Sprint.

The FJR-1300 is supposed to be tits but I can't even stand the looks of
them. Too Gold-Wing like, I guess. Even Honda'a ST1300 looks better IMO.

Yeah, but that FJR motor kicks some serious a.s.

I saw my first K1200GT down past Deal's Gap this past Friday. The guy
was from Pittsburg and had had it a week and already had 1k miles on
her. My kinda guy.

He didn't talk too much and seemed to be in a hurry, heading off in the
direction opposite to our own. Strangely, my buds and I were having
lunch in a restaurant ~70 miles from where we saw him (and his son on a
yellow R1200GS) and were talking about him and the bike when I look
through the front window of the diner and there they are riding by.
Talk about an ESP moment!
