I can't believe I waited so long to see this movie. It rocks!
I expected to enjoy it. What I didn't expect was to be sitting on the edge
of my seat, watching highlights from a race from 35 yrs ago as if it were
live TV.
Most of you have probably seen this movie and know what I'm talking about.
If you haven't seen it, you should.
Now I'm anxiously looking forward to seeing "Dust To Glory".

I am still amazed at how smooth that Malcom Smith dude rides. I really like
the part where he avoids the giant mud hole by sneaking through the barbed
wire fence. And the opening scence with the kids on bikes brings back so
many memories.
And the flat track scenes, I still want another flat tracker.

I have Faster, Dust to Glory and On Any Sunday on DVD. I think Glory
is the best one. You'll dig it so much you'll sell your R1 and buy a
dirt bike! Well, maybe.

Go get the second "On any sunday" I got it for Hurricane Hannah but
they got some great Kenny Roberts footage\Interviews too. I can
understand why Kenny was so great. He had the winning attitude, and
was fearless. Kenny was whooping all the European's. That was great.

I didn't expect to enjoy it since I'm mostly interested in road racing and
the movie is a bit old - man was I wrong, it was it a great movie. One
thing it really drove home - not much has changed when it comes to bikes
and their riders/racers. That Smith guy was amazing.

People from as long ago as 1941 are still living today, and Malcolm is one
of them.
Let's not bury him quite yet.

I was in the Checkers MC during what I think is the golden era of desert
racing. This was a time of transition when the big Brit twins were being
replaced with Spanish, Japanese, and Swedish two-strokes. A bunch of us
crazy kids are still around. And my Checkers jersey still fits :) Hard
to believe that was nearly 40 years ago.

I miss the great times around the firepit passing the peppermint
schnaaps, and being pissed that Whitey Martino snatched my firewood
stack I'd set up for the morning fire. I don't miss the bad times when
we lost Larry Fitzenreuter, Whitey's crash, hell, my crash! Mitch Mayes'
rock. Whitey made great spaghetti! I wonder where all the great Checkers
are today...

And Malcolm Smith is still leading his annual "ride to the races" that ends
up at Laguna Seca for the Grand Prix, as well as running his "No Wimps"
dual-sport classic.

Having spent some time in that sport, and some motocross and
one road race.. it is my experience that nothing even comes
close to dirt track. ovals or other semi smooth closed circuit
dirt tracks... in my view nothing even comes remotely close to
sliding a bike sideways into at turn...
also coming off the line is a hoot and a half if you have the
nerve to make it first into the first turn...if not though,
coming off the line can be a bad deal...
especially in a night race for some reason, not nearly as fun
in a day race. Lodi Cycle Bowl, Ascott park in LA and 3 star
raceway in Sacramento were predominantly night races...as are
most of the class A short track events... gotta see one of
those to believe it.
100 hp 500cc singles burning alcohol and nitro methane, in a
frame with no suspension. no left foot peg. vertical front
forks, 110 lbs, no gear box and a rolling start into a 3 or 4
lap. 60 second race.
