Just bought this bike and it needs work and parts.

Is the wiring diagram available anywhere besides in a original or Clymer
manual? Want to hook up the things that have been disconnected.

I might be odd to ask but where is the switch to turn high beam
headlight on as its not on handle bars and headlight connector has been
cut off.

At the moment it's missing CDI, coils, battery, air filter and air box
cover, and other parts. If I boost jump to the battery cables, but
starter is not turning, am I missing out on something as previous owner
said he was able to turn engine over. or is it bad switch?

Also noticed that when it was in the truck being moved it gently laid
over and leaked oil from some place. Is that abnormal?

Suggest you post this message to "rec.motorcycles.tech" insread of
AMS. Few in AMS are even old enough to know much about a 1983 street
motorcycle, much less your vast problems that lay ahead. BTW IMO, bad
choice in buying an old bike in poor condition, regardless of price.

This group "mostly" deals mostly with cutting edge (2000 or newer)
consumer bikes.

#1- You want to go to http://www.thegsresources.com

The high beam switch is on the left handlebar switch housing.  Are you
saying the housing is gone?

You have a lot of work ahead.  Plenty of running GSs out there
cheap...you may want to consider finding a running one and using that
one you have for parts.

No I am saying that housing is Turn signals, then horn, then choke.
Unless there is a momentary push position in the middle of the turn
signal range?

Not as cheap as I paid, and I think with a couple of hundren dollars
mine will be fine. It is actually a
GS650GLD made in 11/82 and I have never heard of that designation before.

Ahhh.  If it's like my GS850, then the blinker switch is the high beam
also.  Just slide the blinker switch up or down for high/low.

These guys might be of some help:
http://www.thegsresources.com/

BTW, high beam is on the left grip. Same buttom as the directional.
Up/down for highbeams, left/right for blinkers.

Thanks, that would make sense.  Didn't try that as the lever is bent and
button is missing.  Decal is worn off so cant read.
