Kawasaki Concours Oil Leak

Hello,

Running into a small oil leak on my 1999 Concours.  I'm not a total
gearhead but know my way around a motor, enough to be dangerous.  The
leak appears to be coming from the weap hole on the water pump.  I'm
confused because I wouldn't think I'd see an oil coming out of the weap
hole, just antifreeze.  I have the Clymer manual and I've haven't found
proof that it's possible.  Wondering what the community thinks?  I'm I
crazy or could it be?  The antifreeze looks good, I just changed it
this spring and when I checked it over the weekend it was a nice green
color.  The Connie doesn't leak a lot of oil, just enough to make a
mess in and around the gear shifter.  It has 57,000 miles on it.

Thanks in advance,
John

Thanks Joe.  I think it's possible for oil to come from the weap hole.
See this post.

I have a 98 Zx6e that did the same thing.

Replaced the water pump an that stopped it.

The oil seal just started leaking, I would imagine that if you could source
the seal you could save yourself a considerable amount of money.

Thanks Mike,

I'm going to try and replace the seals instead of the entire water
pump.  I tore everything down yesterday and I'm just waiting for the
parts to arrive, hopefully soon.  Did notice the antifreeze did have
some oil in it but thinking it's just from the seals going bad.  I'll
let you know the outcome.

Well replacing the seals was quite a challange.  I think it would have
been easier to replace the entire water pump, but more expense.  First
off use Red Locktite, lot's of it.  Use it on the o-ring on the coolent
manifold pipe and use it on the o-ring on the water pump.  It took me 3
times before I got all the leaks sealed.  Good part is I'm really good
at water pumps now.  So far no leaks and no more oil leaks from what I
can tell.  Consider this one closed.

Thanks,
John
