In the spirit of being more on topic than off, how about this?
Now that the season is winding down a little, particularly for those of us
in colder climes ( it was 70F and sunny here today for those who are
detractors of Colorado weather, and yes, I rode the bike ) whats the future
look like for everyone? Any exciting plans, changes in bikes or riding for
next year, other interesting tidbits?
Myself, I keep looking at dual sporty bikes but can't get up the urge to
pull the trigger. Have been looking at bigger sport tourers as well, but I
really like my smaller, do-everything type bikes.
On a related front, there are some rumblings about a new track for the local
club cage and bike guys to replace old Second Creek, construction in 2007,
possibly open in 2008. If it happens, the mighty mite would be prime time
ready for trackbike-hood, and replaced with something or another.

On topic......bloody hell......
No new bikes coming my way unless I sell everything Iv'e got and go for
the one 'all-rounder' that would suit my every need....a KTM950
SuperMoto.....but I can wait a few years until their price drops.

I've checked those out before, they do look nice. I've been checking out
much smaller, easier to use off road versions though.

Yep, it's shopping season and the F4i is due for damn near $1k in routine
maintenance.
So, as I've posted before: I like the Ducati Multi 620, The Ducati GT1000. I
haven't posted my interest in the Buell. (Gee I wonder why?) I've
considered downsizing to a Ninja 250.
And after all that, I researched the KLR 650. It has so much potential.
And it is cheap, even new!
I have hudreds of miles of open desert road just a short ride away. I can
hit the old Pony Express trail in about an hour. Hours of dirt roads, no
lights, no cops, never seen a deer, lots of rabbits, no water, if you crash
you are a long time from help.
And yet the KLR will do 400 miles on pavement, no problems. Six gallon fuel
tank!
And the abudance of after market parts is astounding, everything from
luggage, altenators, raditor guards, seats (Corbin!), lowering links, front
springs, tires, tubes, lights, everything.
But I despise the bucket and shim valves. That is difficult for the home
mechanic (me).

Do it!.....I'm just rediscovering the joys of a big trailie (KTM 640)
and laughing in my helmet. It can easily cruise at 60-70mph (I'm not
sure if the gearing is 'standard') on the tarseal......and the same on
gravel roads, but I'm sliding around more which was something I'd
forgotten was so much fun.

What kind of routine maintenance costs $1G?
Valves + tires + everything else a mechanic can dream up?

Chain and sprockets ~$200 + installation.
Valves! I own and read the shop manual. You practically have to
disassemble the bike, remove fuel tank, radiator, fuel rail, cam shafts,
most body work. All day at 50 bucks an hour is another $400.
So I am already up to $600 and haven't paid for other parts and fluids.
So maybe $1k is a bit high...

As fun as they are (and they ARE) you might find a micro-Ninja a bit
limiting. I DID ride mine to work today however.

Please...this is supposed to be an on topic thread and not a place for you

I'm not into SM, but where I'm from it does get a little dirty and you
better be wearing protection.

Drop laptimes and actually get on the podium.
I think I have sourced a free front fairing from a Concours, which I
will modify to work on a SV650. If it does ok I will sell the ST1100
and buy another SV to use as a commuter.
