I've seen this dude before doing all kinds of crazy stuff... Seeing this
one I have the same question I have every time:
Where do I sign up?

The X Games came to San Diego a few years ago. The one event I went to
was street luge. Incredible. As a hard core bodysurfer, I always
wanted to do the head-first prone thing, though.
But I just wonder, how many prototypes did he go through, and how many
crashes he's had.

As an adrenlin junkie I do sidecar racing. Here we are about to pass
another rig like they were standing still.
http://users.adelphia.net/~kowfeathers/passing.JPG
That's me peeking out from behind :)
The passenger on this rig is a girl that has more guts than i'll ever
have.
http://users.adelphia.net/~kowfeathers/740%20flying%20the%20chair.jpg
A few years ago she took up doing road luge (sp). She hit a guard
rail doing about 80 mph. It was two years before she came back to do
sidecar racing again. She now wears bandaids to cover the spots that
don't tan. That's where the bones came through the skin.
Still this looks like a rush, and I havn't got many years left
anyway ;)

One of these days I've got to get a set of race leathers and get job being the
monkey...most of the current crop seem to be letting too much air between them
and the ground. ;^) You have to be so close to the ground that the guys on the
other teams are worried FOR you and not themselves. ;^) You might be crazy but
I'm certified.

I wanted to try the monkey thing for years and finally just brought my
leathers to the track and offered my services to anyone that would
take me. A guy showed up that needed a passenger and a half hour
later I was sliding around the track with a perfect stranger. We got
two short practice sessions and then went racing. As we got ready to
grid it started to rain. The driver offered me an out since he had
never raced in the rain before. No way! We started 10th ot of 14 and
finished 5th. My face shield kept fogging up so I had to reach up
inside on the straights to clean it off so I could see the next turn
coming up.

It was a blast. Been hooked ever since.
Started doing roller blades 8 years ago to help stay in shape.
Nothing as wild as the video, but I did do a lap of Loudon hanging on
to the back of a bike :)

Um, Bruce? Just fyi, that's pretty damn wild. I think it might just
be possible that your wildness refernce points are a bit, um, ....
skewed.

Yikes!
Wow. I rode Grimselpass and Furkapass in mid-June of 1983 and there was
no traffic riding on its belly. The guy certainly has no fear. :-)
These videos must have been made in late July and August. There was
still a lot of snow up there in June.

Yep and he built a nice rig to do it with. It is a real shame there are no roads
like that AND of that quality here in the states. It's one thing Europe has that
I'm jealous of.

Actually if you look at 31 seconds into this clip hou can see that not
all the roads have that great a surface.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obvDwkfZdXA&mode=related&search=
But you would be hard pressed to find a place to do this in the
states. Gonna have to do it and get outta Dodge quick if I don't want
to end up in jail.

Did you see the speeds he looked to be running near those rock walls and
concrete posts along the road to catch him if he screwed up? I'll take a
racetrack and triple digit speeds thanks.

If that didn't look like fun... You could never make it as a monkey. Monkeys
have more fun than the worm driver.

When my driver retired he sold me the rig. I can drive it but I have
much more fun as the monkey. Now I get to pick the driver! Last year
I chose a guy that does flat track and ice racing in addition to road
racing. We finished third in the championship :)

PLEASE tell me you are near the NW!!! I'll beg borrow or steal and failing that
buy a set of racing leathers...it would be the perfect outlet for my extreme

This has GOT to be CG. The road surface is featureless--no texture, no
tire tracks, only a painted line and one color change. There are also
no weeds/leaves growing right next to the road, and the rock faces look
too...generated, no gravelly bits next to the road.
That said, it's a nicely-done fantasy!

Have you been to Europe? Most all the roads in Switzerland, Austria and
Germany are as smooth as glass. I rode my Beemer over Grimsel and Furka
and other passes.
There is vegetation along the road. And numerous Alpen passes have rock
faces like this.
> That said, it's a nicely-done fantasy!
I didn't even think of CG...

Nope, not CG Denise, that is real.
3 reasons you don't see as many road imperfections as you are expecting:
1 - Speed
2 - Low quality video, compression will blur out imperfections
3 - This is Europe, not the US. Roads don't come with potholes =)
As far as weeds & leaves on the side of the road go, doesn't surprise me
either. Around here in Germany, they actually periodically go along the
side of the road and cut down anything that wants to grow there. They have
a special vehicle just for that purpose with an extensible arm which does
the cutting. Not unlikely that the road in that video is maintained in a
similar fashion.

Damn. I can't believe he was passing bikes on a gravity powered ride.
