I have a CD175 (A5) in mint condition. Have owned her for some 15 years now,
unable to ride anymore. Any idea what she's worth??

They're rising in value. My very clean original one, I sold a couple of
years ago for ukp325 - all they were worth then. Today, I could add 50
quid to that, easy.

If it really is mint, then 400 quid, even 500, isn't out of court.
They're charming bikes. Utterly crucial items are:

Chaincase - must have both halves

Mudguards - must be original and not rusted through

Paint - must be original, and the candy red they used on the A5 fades.

Side panels - unmarked, and with all mounting lugs intact.

Engine must be perfect (but the CD175 mill is pretty well bullet-proof)

Some silly buggers are asking 750 quid, even 1000 or more for superb
ones, but they aren't finding buyers. They just aren't worth that, no
how, no way.

Up to 20k miles...

One remembers telling one lad who had one that it was only firing on
one. He wouldn't have it. Then he stripped the motor down and found
that one conrod was broken... (did one use enough ones in that
paragraph?)

I recently acquired a tidy-looking one for £215 but it has an annoying
electrical fault which I have already wasted hours investigating. With
hindsight, I would have paid twice that (always supposing I had it)
for one which was *really* good.

Let me guess? Can't get the tail-light to work?

Or is it failing to charge?

If the former, it will be the ignition switch connector. If the latter,
I have half a dozen CD175 reg/recs, all tested and working.

These posts are three years old and a friend of mine has a CD175 in pretty
good condition that he would like to know the value of before he considers
whether or not to sell the bike.

The paint is original but faded on the mudguards and the chrome work on the
wheels is pitted. There is a small dent on one of the side panels but all the
badges are present. It is a good running bike that has no charging problems
and the lighting is all spot on.

This is a clean example of a bike on a S plate (1978) making it one of the
last CDs before Honda brought out the Benly series of bikes.

All advice is appreciated..

Um, are you sure it's an A5? I thought that was the last of the line, made
from 1976-78.

The earlier slopers are more valuable, but even the later bikes fetch good
money now. A mint sloper would be about £750-800. A ditto later bike maybe
£100 less.
