Castle Combe bites back

Castle Combe bit me (again) today and added another to the
smashed collarbones in the series, making a total of
eight so far this season. :-(

I got skittled from behind by an orange bib numpty who
then proceeded to ride over me and the bike. I managed
to get up and off the track but laid the other side of
the armco and just knew my collarbone had gone.

One ride in the ambulance and a rather sweaty me
as the doc removed my leathers, a load of pain killers,
getting picked up by my old man who drove 4+ hours
to come and get me then a trip to Chelmsford A&E,
a blue spongy sling and I'm finally at home.

Leathers and lid are a write off, bike has lots of cosmetic
damage plus a bent zorst where he used me as a braking
marker  and probably bearing trouble if it was running
while on it's side.

Isn't racing great!

Oh dear.

The bone's going to smart a bit.

But not as much as the Ursine One leaping about and yelling "I *told*
you so!".

GWS.

Thanks, although I think I still have the spare
pegs you made up for me. They do a brilliant job
of acting like a crash bung while bending and
grinding away, keeping most bits off the floor.

Unfortunately they don't repel attacking numpties.

Thanks hugely for cheering me up on my rather miffed drive home.

The fact you were prepared to break bones just to make me feel better
about the loss of an expensive tyre and a colossally expensive wheel
only goes to show what a great mate you are.

PS: I still think bone from your previously removed second head could be
used as a graft.

Yeah, still not quite sure how I managed that but I'm
glad to be of service, I think!

I admit I was *thoroughly* pissed off; one split-second event and I'd
missed the PlatyParty.  If the additional rain hadn't been forecast I'd
have chanced it (and gone to those superb folk, ProTyre of Brizzle, in
the morning), but 20mm minimum, on top of what had already fallen, was
worrying the hell out of me, so went home (good thing too - it tipped
down even this far east).

At the point I was most cheesed off, grumbling away to myself, your SMS
came through; the subsequent call a) cheered me up, coz you're always
fun to talk to, and b) made me realise I could have had a *much* worse
day.

Quik Fit in Balham have the right Michelin in the right size, so I'm off
out in a min to see if the alloy wheel has been too badly dinged to
continue.  If it's just a tyre it'll be about £175.  If it's the wheel
too I dread to think what the cost is going to be :(

PS: The missus *is* going to kill you when she gets back :)
PPS: It seems to be a popular UKRM racing injury; IIRC Champ got
similarly collected and dumped, with similar results.

When I first read this, I thought you meant you'd broken your
collarbone eight times!

>I got skittled from behind

That's how I broke my collarbone at Oulton.

Bugger.  And expensive day out.

>Isn't racing great!

When it's good, it's very very good, but when it's bad it's terrible.

Get well soon. See if you can persuade the medics to give you a
'figure of eight' brace instead of a 'cuff and collar' - it's loads
more practical.

Ta. I've already had the collarbone chat with Cobby
yesterday and he said the same. I'm at the fracture
clinic tomorrow so we'll see what happens, but have
a works private policy if I need it.

If they really won't play ball, I've still got my figure-of-8 brace
that I can send you.

Four hours?  I'm just down the road.  We could have collected you and
propped you up on the sofa to laugh at.  Beer, drugs and munchies within

Unfortunately the electrics didn't fail today so I had to crash it to
maintain the average "in workshop" time appropriate for this type of
Italian motorbike.
