So obviously it's time to go back.

f.ck.

I'm getting rather tired of this.

The rear disk with less than 1k miles on it is starting to warp, like its
predecessor. Given that they're cheap as chips[1] I'm obviously not too
worried.

And it looks either like the clutch cable is f.cked or the clutch actuation
mechanism is going duff somewhere - as it's gone very heavy and jerky. Hope
it'll make it to Brian's without breaking the cable as he's guessing that the
cable is on the way out. I effing hope so as all other alternatives would be
even more expensive.

[1] A mere snip and 225 quid, and that's *just* the part.

Have you ever considered spending a bit more to buy a bike that isn't a
heap of old sh.t?

Sure.

That was in the shop more often than I liked, just for warranty repairs
instead of just repairs. Oh, and to fix things they f.cked up during the
previous service.

WUN has seen the way, the answer it to flog all the bikes in the garage,
then buy something brand new with a 2 year warranty.

And get it bashed within 3 days of picking it up, of course.

You mean, like the last bike I bought that still had a warranty on it, which
I sold because I was getting fed up with the repairs?

I don't recall that.  Was it actually a brand new bike, or just new to
you?

BMW GS Adventure, bought slightly less than a year old with 10k on the clock,
still under BMW warranty and with full service history etc blah blah. Sold it
last year when it was just out of warranty after having to visit the BMW
dealership in Chur three times within two weeks for various issues. And yes,
I pointed out all the issues that I had had fixed to the person who bought it
off me instead of just saying "BMW says it's OK" like some other people.
Reportedly he's very happy with the bike...

Part of the problem seems to be the mileage I do as I seem to be doing the
national average mileage in a little more of a month, and the fact that due
to various ailments and ergonomics issues, there are only a handful of bikes
which I can ride for that kind of distance, and most of them don't seem to be
very happy doing that kind of mileage, either.

Be fair, that was a BMW so it was to be expected. If you saw past the
teutonic crap there are a great many reliable bikes out there that
will do the job better, if you bought a decent one to start with.

How about you buy a bike that isn't reknowned for being shite, not
just a newer bike in the hope it won't be.

I still find it highly amusing that the only bike you've ever owned
that didn't turn out to be a terminal money-pit was a Bimota YB7.

Well, I'm always open to suggestions but so far my experience is that pretty
much all the bikes that remotely fit me have been doing a similar stellar job.
Unfortunately due to the often trotted-out issues I'm rather restricted in my
choice of commuting bikes (big tourer, big trailie or "factory custom").
Guess I'd be a prime Glodwing candidate but SD's constant issues with his and
the fact that I'd be bulldozing my way through traffic instead of filtering
are putting me off.

You mean, like an unbreakable Pan European?

Well...

Motosport #2 seems to be doing alright since I sorted out the carb, but I
guess I need to buy more Italian exotica. But then again I'm not daft enough
to, say, ride my Laverda to work.

And how old was it, and how many times had it been round the block, at
the time?
