Motorcycles, dancing, a good book and sex

Just in from a rather wonderful girls night out. Sometimes you really
don't realise how much you need to dance until you do it. [1]

I was trying to explain the link between the stuff in the title to two
non riding friends.

The closest I could get was comparing the thrill of 100 mph plus
filtering when you're in the zone, where everything is shooting
towards you so fast and yet you're completely focused and know where
you are in relation to the world, with the random motion through a
packed dance floor, hair flying, elbows out and space magically
appearing around you. In the moment, like great sex or when you're
caught up in a book.

Is there a better explanation? How do you explain why you ride to
people who don't?

[1] Rambling pissed happy bird bit. I like this DJ, we gave him a set
list at the start of the night and he played all of it, though he
substituted sit down for laid and common people for do you remember
the first time. However as I got superstitious, love shack, killing in
the name of, are you gonna be my girl, mr brightside and standing at
the edge of control (which is just as fantastic to dance to as I
thought it would be) amongst others I'm happy.

<sneaks out of hiding to say...>

"Four things you give up when you have small children?"

...might be another way to explain it. Arse.

It was good to see Adie the other night, so at least we still feel
like we *know* people who still do those lovely things... ;o)

Enjoy!

Hah, we can see you there!  Having taken a break from the group and only
come back recently, I was wondering where you'd got to.[1]

I'm guessing this explains it.  In which case you'll be back.

I quite like a nice arse, personally ;-)

[1] Well, not just you, obviously, cos there are a few other names
missing as well.

Aha! I was thinking of you just the other day. What was the 400
sportsbike you used to have? I had a go on it at one of the 'OSMs and
had great difficulty in gettng my big feet round the gear lever.

I'd like to think that my filtering technique is a little more elegant that
when I give it "The Helicopter" on the dance floor.
But it's true, I had some great sex while my ex was caught up in a book (if
I 'filtered in' before she stopped reading).

and for the bike to be doing 100mph, the cages are doing what, 70-80
in your scenario? It's still not what I think of as "filtering", more
just "making best use of available road".

OK, allright already.

For me, "filtering" is best defined as doing 30-40mph around the North
Circular between lanes 2 and 3 where the cars are stopped or doing
20mph max.

M25 from Jn28 round to the M4, then M4 out to Jn10, pretty heavy traffic
(between 5pm and 6pm on a Thursday), lanes 2a or 3a, GL1200.  I didn't go
much above 80 at any point.  I let a few sportsbikes past but most other

I filtered on my Bandit at an _indicated_ 200 km/h (~124 mph), and at 160

Unless we have differing definitions of what 'filtering' means...

Unlike some here I don't make claims that are untrue. Neither do I use
spin. This makes me a bit boring when I get into story telling mode,
but hey, I'd rather be truthful and boring than a teller of tall
tales.

However as you don't know me very well I suppose it's hard to judge.

Passing between two lines of traffic - in town this is done in a
straight line, on motorways more like the diagram dog has posted

I'm struggling to see why you find this so hard to believe, unless
it's based on personally experience of Kate's riding style. I
regularly used to do just that, why shouldn't she?

You should see all the many and varied misspellings of my surname that
I get sent. On a personal level I don't care but in a business context
it tends to count against whoever sent me the sales material..

we have an 2nd office in London that I go to roughly once a month -
it's in a shared building with managed facilities. Not once have the
(admittedly decorative) girls on reception managed to spell my surname
correctly - last time I was down as "Mr. Air-Van" (yes, complete with
hyphen).

I'm sure I've mentioned before that when I first subscribed I assumed
that your name was some sort of porn-star piss-take name.

And you want to try being called "Sales", not just for the spellings
but the pronunciations as well.  Best so far is "Mr Salez", in a
Spanish accent.

Oddly enough that is one that never happens.

The phantom "n" before the "c" is almost an everyday occurrence, an
accented final "e" is another, the two together is not uncommon.  I get
annoyed about the added "n". Snot a matter of difficulty with
pronunciation but more about them not bothering to read what they think
they are looking at.  Says a lot about people does the way the try to
pronounce my name it does and I make judgements based upon it.  It is
good with telephone salesdroids though.

Them: "Hello is that Mr <pause> HAVE ANCH?"
Me:  Where did get the en?
Them:  Pardon?
Me  The en, where did you get it from, is it on the paper or the screen
in front of you or did you make it up all on your own?
Them:  I don't understand, what is an en?
Me:  Don't you listen to what you are saying?  The EN, where did you get
it from?

etc, etc, etc.
