Bikes you should have bought

I've never felt that strongly about bikes I've owned and sold, but TOG's
post got me thinking about the bikes I should have bought:

When I read, in the December '75 issue of Bike, of the Moto Guzzi 750 S3, I
should have followed my original impulse and sold both parents into slavery
to buy one.

I should have bought the KTM 990 Adventure instead of the BMW 1200GS,
that is a f.cking fact.

Yes, I strongly believe you should have. The world would have lost a new
term for punting out a bodged (whatever) to an unsuspecting punter though.

Swings and roundabouts.

Stood with cash in hand by a new GSX1100E

Bought a used K100RS

I can't help but think if I'd bought the Suzi I'd still have it...

Try this one - I found it in some crossword or other last year, and I

I like that one.

Years ago, when I was a horny teenager entertaining some burd in my
bedroom, some so-called mates stuck one outside the bedroom door to see
if we'd keep time.

Honda RC30 that my then wife-to-be talked me out of buying in favour of
buying a house and getting married. At the time I was pretty well minted

ISTR that was on a 'FOT and you were late so had to catch us up.

All I recall (being a back marker), was a distant rumbling behind me,
when I looked in the mirror there appeared to be a blurred SOB
approaching at an indecent rate of knots, pilotted by what appeared to
be just a large open face helmet with big staring be-goggled eyes.

It went past me at around Mach 1, a deafening crescendo of many small
italian parts being made to work a lot quicker than guiseppe envisaged
they ever would.

Upon catching up at Tescos, it was apparent that it was also spunking
oil everywhere.

Happy days.

No surprise there then.  Don't know why you just don't buy one. You want
one and I'm sure Linda could be persuaded about the extra comfort, pace,

Pair of Katana 1000's with flat-slide carbs.  Mate had them, one as a
race bike one as a road bike, he fell into some problem marriage and she
made him get rid for about 1/3rd what they were worth, and I had the
cash at the time.  Can't remember what stopped me.

My mate Kurt Langan won the Marlboro clubmans championship at
Silverstone on an LC350 , er many years ago.  I had spannered for him,
swapping some Stan Stephens barrels etc the previous night and was
offered his winning bike cheaply ... again didn't take it.  :(

Possibly, I should have had faith in Lambertini and the Berti brothers
that the Morini Corsaro 1200 would actually happen, rather than remain
an MCN 'scoop' ibike, instead of buying the Voxan.

Still not ruled it out, but I would have difficulty swapping the Tart
for a Corsaro or 9 1/2 because:
a) No dealer would give me a PX,
b) No one would buy it privately, though I could try Nigeing it out on
ebay.fr,
c) I really do like it in an illogical way,
d) It might be a reasonably rare collectors item one day ("never raced
or rallied mate"),
e) I might *just* be able to squeeze another bike in to the garage.

If you mean the original one then yes, you should have.

I can't believe what they're making, money-wise - like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-RD-350-LC-4l0-matching-frame-engine-
vgc_W0QQitemZ260164286929QQihZ016QQcategoryZ9809QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1Q
QcmdZViewItem

So that's no tax or MOT, no indication of mileage (never a good sign),
and it's apparently worth £2,000!  Then again, try finding a decent one
these days ... the would appear to be on a par with rocking horse sh.t
for rarity.

Or a tidy 250LC that's reached £1,800 already?!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1981-YAMAHA-RD-250-LC-WHITE-RED-RD250LC-ORIGINAL-
MINT_W0QQitemZ200155045625QQihZ010QQcategoryZ9809QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1
QQcmdZViewItem

Or how about a ratty, non-UK 500 LC?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RD-500-LC-
YPVS_W0QQitemZ330168433538QQihZ014QQcategoryZ9809QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1
QQcmdZViewItem

£2,500 and it's not even reached reserve yet!  Although at least that
one's got MOT.

I'm trying to bring myself to say "who would want something like that in
this day an age?" but again, if I had the room, it's the sort of thing
that would tempt me [1]

[1] until the sanity bus arrived and I realised I don't have the skills
to look after one, at any rate

Looks great, but I bet it would be a bastard on the wrists.

1998, was a little 'bored' with the ZZR11 (!) and the missus never
went on the back anymore, so I really wanted an R1.  But, they were
effectively 1500 quid more than a ZX9R, so got one of those instead.
Great tho the 9R was, I always regretted not having one of the first
generation R1s.

So, when the missus walked out a few years later, I didn't make the
same mistake twice, and got a first generation GSX-R 1000   :-)

One of my brother's previous girlfriends (this was about 20 or so years ago)
was complaining to one of his mates that David spent more time and attention
on his bike[1] than he did on her.  The mate pointed out that he'd paid £400
for the bike, whereas he'd picked her up off the street.

I should have bought a ZX10R a year earlier than I did.

I should have done almost everything earlier than I did.

My only real bike regret is not having owned an H2 at some point.  I
suppose there's a lot of life left yet so it may yet happen though.

Apart from that I've pretty much had most of the bikes I wanted or at
least have been willing to live with.
