I liked the BBC seminar - a wonderful green-platitude-laden chairperson,
attendees of every colour and disability, plus copies of the Grauniad on the
table.  Not subtle, but funny.

It wasn't half as funny as it could have been, with a bit of subtlety.

Well, good point.

I did like the bit where the 'v' in "Reventon" is (apparently)
pronounced as a 'b', Clarkson ending with "this car will get you
plenty of 'badge'.  I think I got away with that"

I quite specifically didn't like that. It was so obviously scripted
and rehearsed it lost whatever comic effect it might have otherwise
had. Maybe you had to be more pissed than I was at that time of the
evening.

Having seen Clarkson on IQ last week, the thought that he could *actually*
be funny is laughable.

He was absolutely stomped on by the IQ regulars and looked like a fish out
of water. He almost sighed with relief when the programme came to an end.

The same is true of *loads* of people who (unlike Clarkson) claim to be
proper comedians. IQ, Whose Line is it Anyway, HIGNFY, Buzzcocks etc
all show who can be spontaneously funny rather than having to think
about it. It's a very specific ability, & I don't think it
automatically makes you unfunny if you can't do it. Take Richard Curtis
for example - would he be suddenly considered incapable of being funny
if he couldn't 'perform' on a comedy panel quiz?

Clarkson *is* an IQ regular - he's been on at least 3 times.  He was
'ok' last week, but was really pretty good on the previous appearance
I saw.

Can I just clarify - we are talking aboput QI here? The TV show hosted
by Steven Fry? If so then yes, he's been on it before.
