So... it's failed the MOT on something around the rear shock. I need to
remove the shock, cut 2" of 'extension' out of the top mount for the
shock and then put the correct length shock in.
Only one problem... I can't find anywhere in the UK that sells Velorex
parts. F2 motorcycles state that they are the UK Velorex importers and
were completely useless;
Can I get a shock for a 562?
"No, we don't stock them"
Oh, any ideas where?
"No".
So... a bit of googling and I find the American importer. And they're
happy to ship it to me for (about) 100usd all in.
So I presume it's produced in the far east, shipped to the Czech
republic, shipped to the US and then shipped to the UK.
*sigh* madness.

I know it's a long shot, but did you try Hagon? They may have something
that'll suit.

Indeed. They were very helpful when I built the Rotarini. They could
build one to order if you can be sure of the length, mountings and
spring strength. The spring will be trickiest so long as it has
conventional mounting lugs (i.e. bolts through bushes). If you are happy
with the stiffness of the existing item they may be able to match it.

We can manufacture shock absorbers to your exact specifications if
required. Provide us with the required open and closed lengths, spring
rate and damping requirements and the type of end fitments needed. If
you need help to calculate information such as the required stroke,
damping etc then please call us and we will be pleased to help. We carry
all the necessary mounting bushes and fork/loop fittings to provide you
with a ready to fit product."

Hagon will make stuff up to order IIRC

Can it be done manually - what's the exact reason for failure?

The exact reason is "Nearside outer rear Sidecar Suspension fouling
[5/2/2]". With more than about 100lbs in the sidecar (guess)the
suspension is completely locked up.
Anyway, this will drop the sidecar by about 2" which will help with
sharp downhill left hand corners which are a bit scary at the moment.

I tried him for spokes and they weren't that helpful. Anyway, I've
committed to $88 plus postage with Velorex USA.
You know, what I like about dealing with American companies is that they
actually *want* your business, unlike UK ones.

That sounds a decent deal.

Not all of them. I've dealt with many over the past year whilst trying
to source Corvette parts, & have found both extremes. Vette Brakes &
Products in Tampa have been an absolute delight, & went *way* beyond
the call of duty to help me get parts as cheaply as possible. Ecklers
otoh have top place on my list of companies never to deal with again -
even above a certain NI visor dealer.

You've never called Rick Stringer Motorcycles in Bedford then? Give it a
go and see what you think.

I'll be in the Czech Rep in January and would be happy to pick up whatever
bits, but I suspect that'll be too late.
