Motorcycle Forum / Country Specific / UK Group / December 2007Riding Giants
Did anyone catch this movie on the Channel 4, around 1am early on Boxing Day? It's about the history of big wave surfing, directed by the same guy (Stacy Peralta) who did "Dogtown and the Z Boys", a documentary on skateboarding (which was also excellent). Riding Giants is just one of the most inspirational films I've ever seen. You don't need to have surfed to get it - if you ride a bike, and, when you're riding, that's *all* you're doing, all you're thinking, all you're being, then you get it. I recommend it to the house. And, if you missed it, I've still got it, so could probably put it up on ukrm-nova. But the point of the Riding Giants movie wasn't the 'awesome footage' (tho there's plenty of that), but the way the surfers talk. Some of these guys are in their sixties, and have been riding big waves in Hawaii since the late 50s. The sense of mortality is palable.
