Does anyone know if that's possible? I have legitimately (yeah, right)
acquired a SOB that was sold as being stolen/recovered with no V5.

HPI check reveals it to be marked as scrapped (in 1989!) - has anyone
ever tried to reverse that?

TIA

Find a secondhand frame, most pre-1989 frames are cheap. It'll be the
easiest and cheapest way of doing it.

I've wondered about this for slightly difference reasons - take this
example:

Bike A - Frame number 1 - registration is abc 123
Bike B - Frame number 2 - registration xyz 789 (this is just a frame)

Rather than actually swap frames would it be legitimate to swap frame
numbers and registrations which saves taking the bloody bikes apart.

So put Bike B's registration plate on Bike A and fill in a replacement
frame number (frame no. 1) on the V5 of XYZ 789.

A bit later change the engine number.

Only two screws on each of the number plates and a bit of biro wielding.

You could quite easily restamp the old frame with the new number. You
own both frames legitimately, so why not as long as you deface the
number on the old frame.

I think you have to score so many points on the parts swopping list to
be able to legally change a vehicle's frame number, much the same way
as when kit cars used to be registered on year related numbers.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Lozzo" <lozzo@lozzo.org.uk> saying
something like:

That's always been my take on it. There's no intention to deceive or
summat like that, despite some coppers sucking their teeth about it.

Of course, having the same frame numbers on five bikes and only one tax
disc between them would be pushing it a bit.
