Bloody great clouds hanging over precisely where we're going, on
Friday.

Some things never change. Just for once, I'd like a French Run in the
sunshine, on dry roads.

Oh well: that means it'll be the BMW and not the Ducati this time. At
least that gives me more space for wine and cheese on the run home.

Paging Hog and Scraggy - need an ETA for Thursday night, please.

Oh, and there are road works in Dover (albeit suspended for the Bank

Well it would be polite to arrive a little before tea time, if you were
planning food. Otherwise to arrive sufficiently later to allow your food to
settle.  Will both be off all of Thursday and take the day to travel down.
Might even do some of the distance on Wednesday night.

Yup, food and wine laid on..... I'll be home around 6.30pm, but The
Doctor knows you're coming if you arrive earlier.

Not sure where you're looking, but the KMI says there's a chance of a
shower, but remaining generally dry that day, with temps of 17-18 degrees.
Repeat on Saturday, only a bit warmer.

To be honest, the bbc website is all done by computers with no human input &
is *alway* f.cking wrong.

What pisses me off is I want to wear my leathers & whilst i have
waterproofs, if the weathers freezing cold it's f.cking miserable.

I can't be f.cked taking all me winter gear as i sweat like a rapist if the
weathers owt above 12/14 degrees.

Leathers it is with some of those canny under thermals. f.ck me i sould like

they do, but they're not particularly aesthetically pleasing.

I had been intending to just wear denim jeans and my Alphinestars
paddock jacket. But if it's going to rain, I guess it's the Dainese
waterproofs.

I've been out and bought a waterproof oversuit today, so it is
now guaranteed NOT to rain. Unless I leave it at home.

I'm thinking leather troos (half of a two-piece I have) and
either a Ducati paddock jacket or my (waterproof) ski jacket
on the Hypermotard. Just call me "fashion victim".

Good, wannit?

I don't think I've got that wet since the last TOG Tour, but last night
I only went from Windsor to Bracknell.

My HG jacket is waterproof, my AS gloves less so and the boots were
good except where the water dripped down into the top.  And I certainly
won't mention a moist crotch...

I'm hoping that I can get it all dry enough to use The Power Of The
Nikwax on it all before Friday morning.

Depending on which NikWax product you're using, it doesn't need to be dry.

I have a tub of Nikwax and a separate sponge applicator.  I guess
that's just the manual version of what you have.  So applying whilst
moist is OK, then?

I haven't ridden in the wet in *years* ... probably 2005.

Still, it's all part of life's rich tapestry.

I've had a cheap as chips "Spada" textile jacket for the last 4 years and
it's never let a drop of water in. Best "bargain buy" my missus ever made.
It did 2000 mile run over three days and it NEVER even came close to

I bought a Frank Thomas Titanium tour jacket today in J&S.
I never touched their products before but this looks good in every aspect
and fits well. Couldn't find anything else anywhere I liked. For £130 it
doesn't have to last forever or take more than one slide down the road.

Saturday looks OK, but Sunday also looks wet on the GFS run today at
12:00.

The GEM analysis shows no rain for Firday, but it's too soon for rain
forecasting for Sat/Sun.

USAF shows wet Fri and dry Sat.

US Navy shows some rain Fri, dry Sat and dry depart Sun but wet back in
England.

But it is still too early to get anything accurate.

Nah, jus the moment they're about to close the gate. At least, that's what
happened to me a few years back. We were very lucky, otherwise we would have
had to wait about 8 hours in Harwich.

Have there ever been *any* ukrm events, whether organised on the fly or
others like the IoM that aren't freezing cold in a blowing gale with
horizontal rain?

There was a trip to the French Alps that was blazing hot for the most
part.

I'm definitely doing something like that again next year, if I have to
organise it myself. Only next time I'll be taking a fuel injected bike
that doesn't have knackered head bearings.

I'd be interested in that. Perhaps we could have a 2 centre trip. Alsace
and Engelberg come to mind...

Heh. But it just wouldn't be the same without the smell of your
over-fueling flatslides leaving a trail for two miles behind you.

the owner of accommodation has alreagy identified himself and it's
surrounded by Alpine passes - I'll have a better idea in June, as I'm

Been a couple like that, as it happens. Generally summer over here
means summer, proper-like.

I think it was the flatside carbs that were your real problem, as
travelling behind you I was pretty much getting a nosee full of
unleaded.

Tuesday
It rained when I left High Wycombe all the way to Langley
And again in the evening on the way back to HW

Wednesday

Guess what ? It rained this morning on the way to Langley.

It then rained all the way back to t'other side of brum.

I'm still smiling though :-)
