That's a nice bike. I must admit to taking a proper liking to this 748
SPS I've been using for the past few days. I dunno if I'd want to own
one though.

I love it. Can't wait to take it out for the day tomorrow.

It's probably the best bike I've ever owned.

Just need to keep it as tidy as it is now....

He doesn't really use it, so the keys were thrown at me with
instructions to "take it for an MOT and rack as many miles up as
possible before I ask for it back". So far that's about 350 km and I
didn't ride it at all today.

It's been for MOT and failed due to headlight aim being way out, but we
sorted it immediately so it got a pass in the end[1] I've been to see
the new burd on it, had a bit of a ride around here and there and taken
it to the local club meeting last night. It won't get used over the
weekend cos I have far too much to do, but I reckon within a week I'll
have doubled the mileage he's put on it in the past three years.

[1] Officially f.cking up my 100% record but not IYSWIM. He wrote a
fail only because he could, usually he wouldn't bother.

That looks spot on Steve.

This week I have managed to score a black bellypan, black seat cowl and
a small number plate for the trumpet.

Tomorrow I will mostly be giving it a damn good thrashing.

Good stuff.

I swapped the plate on the Ducati this afternoon for one without dealer
branding.

ISTR it's 1" smaller each way than a full 'legal' plate. Barely
noticeable for the plod, but makes a difference to the way the bike
looks.

Just ordered it with a dubtle 70s style Ducati script on the bottom.

My new plate is possibly taking the piss a wee bit, but wgaf, I'm a
pillar of the community.  The plate I took off was a car plate which
looked utterly sh.t.  The new plate is basically plain, with a small
UKRM on the bottom, to save the bother of applying my spare gay spangly
sticker.

If you fancy a spot of lunch in the Maidenhead area, or somewhere near

Here's the damage..... any ideas, Beav?

http://www.italiancar.co.uk/Damage/Damage.html

Pulled into the petrol station at Thame (?), everyone else went for
fuel, I pulled up for a fag, then tried to back it up and push it over
to join everyone else.

Side-stand didn't flip up, and the lack of steering lock caught me out
on a strangely cambered surface. Side-stand snagged on a drainage grill
and bike, in slow motion, laid itself down, despite attempts to stop it.

I am mostly a clumsy c.nt.

A bit gutted about it - but I'm sure a smart repair should get it
sorted.

They're bloody expensive, though. Like a third to half of the cost of
the bike, ISTR.

I know it needs better (louder) cans, but I'll have to keep looking at
eBay for bargains.

Can you define your bargain level?

A guy in the neighbourhood makes them for 150 EUR +16% VAT <calc> 174*2= 348
EUR plus shipping from Dagolona.

Looking at your sig, you'd have loved the exhaust he made for a '66 Alfa

That's not bad, really.

Wonder how much they'd cost to ship? - something to think about.

Although I'm not sure carbon cans are right for a SuperSport - I think a
nice pair of stainless cans would look more 'period', IYSWIM.

Next time I need exhaust bits, I'll have to get in touch with him, 'cos
decent aftermarket systems for the 75 are getting harder to find these
days.

Next week I'll go to the post-office, I may ask.

This is the proposal I got for shipping a single can from the US a few
months ago:

USPS 1-3 days guaranteed: $133.40
USPS 6 days: $59.50
UPS Express 3-7 days: $175.96

Carbon or steel, oval or round. Just tell the guy and he makes it.

Carbon was the all new megabucks thing back in the early to mid 90s.
The 851s and 888s only ever had carbon cans fitted, if any, because
they were always looked on as classy and expensive.

888 hmmmmmmmmmmm

Without a shadow of a doubt the best handling bike I have ever ridden,
gutless compared to modern machinery but I would bet it would catch most
litre sports bikes half way round the first corner.[1]

I just sold a set of stainless Scorpion high-level end cans
for £120; they were mint but I really wanted another pair
of carbon cans and then ended up with some cheap Ti Remus
cans instead.

*IF* you can find the other side, I have a L/H/S Ducati
Performance (Remus) carbon oval and a R/H/S Termi oval
can (brand new) that I'd be willing to sell. They'll both
fit, and I was going to fit them both at the same time,
but they don't quite match!

Keep your eyes on ebay as they do come up every so often.

Took it out for a run on Saturday morning.

160 miles before lunch.

Amazingly comfortable, hugely confidence inspiring handling. Love the
sound and what feels like huge slugs of torque pulling you out of bends.

Parked up in a couple of the usual biker haunts around here and was
amazed at the number of people wanting to have a look and a chat.

Kind of considering some louder cans for it, but only been able to find
really bloody expensive ones so far.

I've been told that the power pulses from a Duke tend to knock out
cheaper carbon cans quite fast. Ant will know for certain.

Niall put Termis on his, and in the end took them off because they were
just too bloody loud.

Mine never last that long :-(

The Termi and the Remus (both supplied through Ducati)
are pretty good build wise but expensive. You're looking
at ebay bargains now though, like my £225 Ti ones:

Best I've seen so far are Viper alloy cans at £280, incl. the fitting

It's a lot cheaper than most options, but I'm not so desperate that I

Viper make universal cans with bent fitting pipes.
Don't expect them to fit properly or improve ground

Ahh, cheers for that.

I'll avoid.

Back to eBay it is.

The only one I use is the www.ducatisportingclub.com (DSC)
one as I've been a member for <thinks> 6 or 7 years now.
There is a DucatiUpNorth which was spawned from the DSC
a while back [1] and then there's the ItalianSportingClub
[1] [2] and, as you say, Ducatisti.

> any worth lurking around looking for parts?

The DSC will have the odd bits and pieces come up but
you sometimes have more luck by asking for something
rather than waiting - there are plenty of people with
garages full of junk, myself included, that can't be
arsed to list it but will offer something if provoked.

But mostly ebay really!

[1] They didn't like the way the DSC was run / the people
who ran the DSC and decided to create their own group
   instead.
[2] Same applies, but went for the "wider audience"
   approach instead.

As I said, if there's something you want then *ask* as
there are lots of owners with parts that they could be
persuaded to let go of for the right price.

As for joining, it's £25 for the first year (then £20
each year after) and you can easily make that back through
the dealer discounts.
