These boots are made for walking, swimming and riding me bike?

I need a pair of boots. Decent one's that offer a good level of protection
(top of my list) but also that I can walk around in a bit, and are
reasonably waterproof. Have been looking at Sidi Vertigo Corsa's
and Puma Moto 1000's.

Any opinions?

I'm happy with my Alpinestars GPS3 Waterproofs, which have been tested
against all three criteria.

I scored a pair of almost new Daytona Rainbows for £50 delivered from
Guernsey. http://www.daytona.de/english/boots_e/gore/3a_rainbowgtx.html

Advertised on Ebay

but sold privately via the UKGSer forum.

They are very good.

Oxtars.

I got a pair of their top of the range Gore-Tex race boots for 135 quid
off ebay, been very happy with them. They are CE approved as well,
which makes them proper Personal Protective Equipment, which very few
boots are. If you're self employed or own a business you can claim the
whole lot back as safety equipment if you're crafty.

Only if they are CE approved, oddly enough - as PPE.  Very few
clothing items are.  A CE approval does not neccessarily qualify an
item as PPE, you see.  More likely for boots than a jacket or helmet,
but still not common.

My Oxtars are CE approved to EN13634:2002 as PPE for professional
motorcycle riders, as are most Oxtars.

*jealous*

I take it that my Furygan kit doesn't meet that criteria ... out of
interest, would a set of BKS made-to-measures fall into that category?
IIRC they're CE approved.

Yes they would, but if I wanted UK made CE approved leathers I'd buy
Hideouts. BKS were bought out by the c.nts at Frank Thomas, and there's
no f.cking way I'm puttting my hard earnt in their pockets.

I give it three years before we start seeing BKS rejects and seconds
being sold in a marquee somewhere in a field just outside Peterborough

Good point, but I've heard some bad things about Hideout as well, so
it's as broad as it's long.

If only Crowtree were still going :(

About 80/20, but it's too much money to throw at people who aren't 100%

Which is why MJKs don't appeal either, although if Crowtree can't oblige
I may as well give Graham a visit.

A huge shame.  I don't think I've ever known a company making such a
complex and varied product whose customers love them as much as Crowtree
people do.

At the risk of sounding like a Troll, the Alpinestar jeans Di got at the
BMF look excellent. Seamed the right way, reinforced etc. OK they may
only take one good slide rather than 2 or 3 but I'm happy with that.

I have an Alpinestars paddock jacket. It seems perfectly well made.
I've fallen off wearing it (admittedly at less than 20mph) and it
showed absolutely no signs of damage.

Last week you were recommending Frank Thomas, now Alpinestar. Will it
be Dainese & AGV next week, or will normality be resumed?

P.S. I will as always give the nod for Wolf, although they've no doubt
gone down the sh.tter too.

Not at all, Wolf are still good kit and made by the same people as
Arlen Ness. you can also get Wolfs made to measure if you're prepared
to go to Sarfend/Leigh on Sea.

I've still got a Wolf lancer style jacket that I bought when I first
passed my test in 1979. It still fits and has been crashed numerous
times without destroying itself.

I had a Wolf plain black leather jacket *years* ago, and it went down
the road any number of times.  Wore through a seam in the end, but was
still usable.

I'm trying to recall who had a Wolf 2-piece ... Mat Tab?

Or possibly his loony lodger and bike crashing mate.

The point is, most race suits don't fit me, as I'm either a) under-tall
or b) over-tubby :)  Hence the need for M-2-M suits.

A gentleman, particularly one of fine statuesque manly proportions,
should never accept anything less than M2M.

*snort*

Actually, I've done really well the last couple of weeks (banned myself
from ordering in food more than twice a week) and the pounds are coming
off again (I pick up and drop weight equally easily), but I'm still too
short in the leg [1] for "normal" suits - these Furygan trousers fit me
really well though, so I'll see how I get on with them on a longer trip
or 2.

If Crowtree are still going and are prepared to make me a suit I'm
having one though ... I think of it as an investment for the future.

[1] I'm a shade under 6 foot, but only have a 29-30 inch inside leg

I have the opposite problem - if I get something long enough in the leg
it can be wrapped twice around my waist.

Same for trousers - the only ones that (off the peg) fit me reliably
are M&S trousers.

> [1] I'm a shade under 6 foot, but only have a 29-30 inch inside leg

<Points and laughs[1] >

Phil.

[1] I'm roughly the same height as you but have a 33-34[2] inch inside
leg.
[2] Depending on time of day, how much I've been standing on my feet
etc etc.

I have a similar problem - I always need smaller jeans than jacket.
Which is why I bought Wolf, as although I knew nothing about them at
the time, they were the only brand where you could 'mix & match' jacket
& jeans in the shop I was in (Powerhouse in Ashford - where I bought
the MV).

I have too large a waist for my height, apparently.

Oh, and fairly huge arms/shoulders.

Exactly what I did with the Furygan stuff from J&S.

It's amazing what a difference it makes wearing kit that actually fits.

Dunno, but I do.  it must be at least 5 years old now, and nothings
burst, torn or worn.

It's a bit "snug" now though.

Well I'm glad you are watching!
Most all FT gear over the past 28 years I've been looking at it has been
shite. Just this XTi jacket is an exception I have seen. I'm really
liking it.

Alpinestar I have never seen a piece of men's gear WAF. These particular
ladies jacket and pants are however nice quality and fit in a "slip it
all off again love" sort of way.

Top end of Dainese range, in particular the textiles have always been
good IMHO.

AGV, christ, I've never seen anything other than sh.t with that name on
it.

I don't know why you keep referring to 'top end' Dainese kit - it's all
made the by the same people using the same materials in the same

I've had my Alpinestars goretex jacket for about 3 years now and it's
still waterproof and warm. I try to avoid crashing so I haven't tested
that aspect of it but I removed the armour so it'd fit over my
