garlicmonster - 30 Jun 2008 09:13 GMT Recommendations sought for a supplier of a replacement battery for my '01 R1150R
Ok - almost certainly induced by a sustained period of numptiness, leaving the parking lights on for a couple of hours a couple of weekends ago - I just managed to start it and ran for about 30 miles with no problems restarted fine a couple of times during the day. Stuck it back in the garage assumed all ok.
Last weekend there was just enough oomph to turn the motor over before the solenoid started chattering so I left it on the optimate most of Saturday and all last night. This morning the Optimate showed Weak and after resetting it the desulphate led came on, so confidence isn't high that it'll recover
All charging efforts have been via the accessory socket as I haven't had chance to disembowel the bike to find the battery. and Yes, fuses have been checked and the socket does work correctly.
Googling I see batteries for the bike ranging from a tad under £100 to a few quid over £25. All claim to be the right capacity, maintenance free gell etc, but there must be some difference to account for range of prices (apart from those magic, price hiking letters b,m & w)
Thanks in advance
Allan

Different technology, they don't die and they have twice the cold cranking power. You probably want a PC680.
My old R100RS started first press of the button after sitting at the IoM airport for over 6 months.

Mine's a bit borderline, as it's on the original battery and the bike hasn't been ridden much.

You should be able to get a decent sealed gell battery anyway. Generally 4cyl bikes do not need the same level of cranking power as a high compression twin.

Where's best to order GS or Yuasa batteries from? IIRC Lozzo said Busters, but is anyone else cheaper?

Give http://www.cheshirebatteries.co.uk/automotive.html a ring They were the cheapest source for Hawker Odyssey batteries.
As a guide, Busters want £84.99 for a genuine Yuasa replacement

Lozzo reckons the R1 needs a decent quality battery, like GS or Yuasa, and I'm happy to spend the dosh ... I just wondered if these heavy duty thingies were possibly an even better bet.
The good news is I can thread an optimate from my living room to the bike below, so I can keep a standard battery topped up through the winter ...
I was amazed at the location of the battery ... it's on its side, FFS. Much larger than I recall the 9R's being too, although of course that could just be my dodgy memory.

The Odyssey mentioned above can be mounted at any angle. They use them on jetskis. The electrolye is held within glass matting.

FFS, what is the f.cking matter with you people. Get with the times dude, if ever the was a way that needed to be going, solar is the way to go for this application.[1]
[1] The mong van needs to move to get a skip onto the drive. I knew this weeks ago and when I tried the ignition it just about lit up the dash lights for a second, the battery was flat. A square foot of solar panel that gives about 17V@100mA on a good day, a diode and a couple of weeks just soaking up the sun and turning it into billions of really rather unexotic particles and bugger me if when I went to try it in the middle of typing this if the van didn't just spring into life. Plug it into the mains? Only c.nts and idiots do that mate.

I have the Odyssey on my R1150GS.
Cheapest source I know is Cheshire Batteries. They do mail order and are a lot cheaper than Tayna http://www.cheshirebatteries.co.uk/

Bear will have to have a sealed job as it is mounted on its side. They come charged & ready to go, usually.
