Mainly because most signs have been stolen :-)

Bit of a trip

Jean and I left Thursday night, did 1204 miles round trip [2]. Part of the
fun was that even as we got on the Ferry we did not know the location of
the rally, it was 8 miles from its place name.

It was dark when we arrived on the south of the island, I had my tinted
visor and could not see more than the white lines and the tail light of
the bike if front (mate on trip). Fortunatly 2 miles down the road a biker
off the ferry thought it would be helpful to guide us...... at wht turned
out to be 80+mph[1] down dark lanes following 2 red tail lights for 35
miles.

Good rally site, they get you drunk before letting you put a tent up :-)

Now, all we need to do is work out if we can make the Summer Dim next year.

[1] only 1 bulb on facia, needle went missing at 50mph.
[2] And still didn't get furthest travelled :-(

Confusingly, there is also a Twatt on Shetland.

I remember Champ absolutely refusing, one year at the Bol, to be
photographed next to a sign that read:

I also think a TC at TWATT has significance :-)

Would anywhere in the UK win longest distance and would you get extra
points for doing it on a wanky old outfit?

Just curious...

What, you want longest distance because you had to go around each
roundabout three and a half times before you could persuade the outfit
to lurch off in roughly the right direction?

Well, it's a theory...

PS. f.ck! I just remembered I owe you money. What a c.nt I am. I shall
get over to see you ASAP. S*rry.

That's great because I need to get the wheel spacers for my exotic new
front forks modified and I can't see me getting any quality time in a
machine shop in the near future.

course, you're welcome to come and play in the workshop any time.

I'm home next weekend so what I might do (if it's ok with you) is work
out what I need on the Saturday then pop over and make them on the
Sunday morning so I can have them fitted the same day.

Cheers for that.

I might have it sorted by alternative means because I spoke to Wasp
(they made the forks) and the owner reckons he's got drawings for all
the bits and it wouldn't cost much for him to knock them up for me. He
didn't know the price until he'd made them but all his other prices
are very fair so I'll probably go down that route.

I also asked how much for a replacement 15" front wheel and that'd be
£510 including spindle and spacers but that's a bit steep for
something as f.cked as my old K. When I asked if he did seal kits or
reconditioned steering dampers if they were sent back he said it
wasn't worth the hassle as they're only about £50 new so I've got one
reserved to replace the existing one that's leaking more oil than a 35
year old Norton.

When I was in Kirkwall I had no particular interest in Naval history at
the time and it didn't even occur to me to look at Scapa Flow. I met
Scabby Flo, though.

Must confess, I spent about three evenings scanning all my old piccies.  I
was concentrating on speed rather than perfection.  By the end of the third
evening I was sick of the sight and sound of a scanner ;-)
Digital photography is my friend.

Know what you mean - scanning can be a pita, but depends on how smart
the s/w is. I'm using Silverfast and the standard Epson s/w and tbh,
most of the time the Epson s/w is just as good for rattling on with it
on auto settings if I have a batch to do where IQ isn't all that
important.
