I have to be there by 8 am (Saturday) for scrutineering. The cars won't
start running until 9 and the bikes will probably get their first run at
about 11.

Entry to the hallowed Bugatti Owners Club ground for spectators is
£12.50. I haven't received any paddock passes yet, but as only the lad
is lined up as pit crew at the moment there should be one going spare.
May be possible to leave one at the gate for you, I'll let you know.

Piss-taking at the usual UKRM rates, i.e. quid pro quo.

OK, not too painful for us potential spectators then.

If anyone else wants it, give them first dibs as there's no guarantee
I'll actually get there, & I'd hate for it to go to waste.

Excellent - as it should be.

I've been told the hill is opening at 8.45, as it's oversubbed again..

It's all those biker bounders. TBF, we tend to all be ready and raring
to go and don't fiddle about with tyre warmers, so our batch usually[1]
takes less time than the same number of four-wheeled competitors.

What is it with MGs or is it the drivers? We were in danger of not
getting our second timed run because so many of them were going off.
The 'Tonka Toy' they use for recovery doesn't help. I reckon the old
trailer and winch they used to rely on was quicker on most occasions.

The feeling from the marshall side was it was a bit of "end of the
season" madness; it was apparently the worst day there all season in
terms of the number of crashes. Certainly my busiest!

No idea about the Tonka - possibly it's because being able to lift the
cars doesn't damage them as much? The drivers can get pretty cranky
(so why not put the flipping tow hook on then?). We had to trailer the
Porsche off yesterday, he made a right mess - the barrier will have to
be replaced.  I had a pretty decent bucket of bits by the end :~)

Sorry I didn't get to see you but we didn't get a long lunch break and
by the time I got down from Esses I didn't have much time.

Have to admit we did find the bloke who rode slowly into the gravel
before falling off the highlight of the day....

TBF it was the last round of the MG championship apparently. Most of our
top ten lot weren't actually there, because it wasn't a round of the
open championship, just vintage/classic/forgotten era and road legal.
That's why I got a ride.

I suppose it is less damaging to lift them, but apparently they had to
take the roof off one car so that they could lift it by the rollover
bars.

I should have walked up between runs and sought you out, seeing as we
fortunately didn't meet in your official capacity.

We aim to please. The spectators usually enjoy the chairs the best
apparently.

I will gloss over my crap performance. Though quite pleased with my
first run of 61.45 (only 4 seconds or so off my best on much more
powerful bikes) I then proceeded to go slower on each subsequent run,
rather than improve by 2 or 3 seconds as I usually do.

A combination of being put off by the cement dust, and the last meeting
of the season syndrome. The two biggest offs I have had racing and
hillclimbing have been at the final event of a season. So I guess your
"end of season" madness is spot on, except that these days my self
preservation weakness kicks in.

Well, the rescue lot had to unbolt the roof, yes. I'm not entirely
sure why as I was busy trying to stop the various bodily fluids
spreading down the whole track, but the front of it was pretty badly
damaged.

They frightened the life out of me, a few heads seemed very close to
the barrier!
