I don't think I even need to click on this.

This is the scene from the 2008 MMA film Never Back Down which is
currently doing the rounds as genuine footage of a one punch knockout?

THEY'RE f.cking ACTORS!

Well yes, but they're funny actors!  I'm off to get a 10 pint knockout,
so any further posts should be taken with a bit of salt.

Sure but that was never purporting to be real where as this has been
landing in inboxes all over the place under the guise of some kind of
underground footage of a real fight.

Well I thought it was pretty obvious but then I'm involved in martial

This is the actual trailer. The original clip is at about the 1 minute
stage. Interestingly the scene is from a completely different angle.

Maybe the youtube clip was used because they looked more like real men
from that angle and not oiled up gay boys.

I really wish I hadn't seen the trailer now.

The film is atrocious. It's like a modern day Karate Kid.

Thinking about it, I can't think of one good martial arts or fight
sport film I've ever seen.

Jackie Chan in the Cannonball run was rather good but that wasn't
(supposed to be) a fight film.

I like Jackie Chan films. They're more Buster Keaton than Bruce Lee
and it's all tongue in cheek.

Road House

Mr Vampire (but silly again, and Jacki Chan)
Blood Sport (so carp it's good)
Prodigal Son and Warriors Two. Not exactly common place, and very much
look like home made, but that's a product of their time (TBH so was a

That's a good call although I wouldn't put it under the heading of a
martial arts film.

On a similar note I like the fight scenes in the Bourne movies with
the added bonus that the films themselves are rather good too.

I mean ok, the plot's rubbish, ditto the "acting", but some of the fight
scenes are pretty good.  To my highly untrained eye, of course ... for

Yes I've seen some footage from one of those ... he's sometimes close to
balletic in the way he moves, and his speed and timing are almost super-
human.

I also like some of the humour in Ong-bak, where they sometimes set you
up to think there's going to be a huge punch-up, and it's all over in
one hit :)  The bit where he does that high kick, in the first "fight
club" sequence (not the one shown in that trailer) is just gobsmacking,
more so coz it's so unexpected.

I also find it funny that they have to replay a lot of his more complex
sequences in slow-motion; you see it for the first time, it looks like a
whirling dervish, and only when it's slowed down can you make out what
he's actually doing :)

Plus he's *tiny* ... you look at him and think "Oh come on - I could
knock him over".

No you couldn't :)

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed most of the ones I've seen, the
choreographed fight scenes are amazing. I just don't think they're
very good.

The only ones where I've felt the fighting has had any degree of
realism are done by Steven Segal but the films themselves are dire.

Lethal Weapon 1 was nice. (The fights were choreographed by
Rorion Gracie, which can be seen nicely in the final fight:

It did come to mind as I was typing. It's a very dark and brutal
almost ugly film but the actual fight scenes bear no more resemblance
to boxing than the Rocky films.
