Rope - 26 Sep 2008 17:27 GMT My IAM bike test today.
It was *the* most boring ride I've had in ages - strictly to speed limits including GLFs, 1.1/2 hrs to cover 50 miles!
The examiner, a serving police class 1 rider, was a 'stick to the rules' chap - we had a post test discussion on this, and he didn't agree that that approach would put off a lot of prospective candidates - even though he kept referring to "we all know what we ride like in the real world"

I didn't do anything else with the IAM this year, but will probably do my test next year, or at least look into RoSPA instead.
While I feel the IAM is quite handy for 'post DSA-test' stuff and general critique on riding style I'm not fond of their Just Pass The Test And As Long As You Keep Giving Us Money You're GREAT! attitude. RoSPA requires regular re-testing (once every year or two?) so one needs to reasonably be able to display the required standard on an ongoing basis.

Yersh, however the IAM (at least the Sheffield lot) does have an on-going social side, with regular ride-outs and critique. Also you can go on to Observer Training, and keep in practice that way.

Yes, but after you've passed the test you need to nothing with them ever again to display their badge, apart from pay them money.

I'm not seeing your posts, Boots, like the one you've just posted, replying to me, because of your 'despammed' text in your 'from' line.
The first three letters of that will give you a clue.
I'm not deliberately being rude: I'm just trying to figure out how to block Des while not blocking despammed....
Suggestions welcome.

It obviously hasn't sunk in yet that you will only 'block' me when I give you permission (tacit or otherwise) to block me. In other words, if I want you to read me, you will read me (unless you avert your eyes at the moment you realise the post you're reading, was written by me). You can whine all you want about that, but no one ever said that life was fair.
If I wish, I can get by each and every one of the 'filters' that you choose to erect, whether you killfile on IP, path, newsreader, etc.
Your best bet is to killfile and then shut the _f-u-c-k_ up about me, as despite Bullshit's repeated and hilariously dishonest claims to the contrary, I do not 'morph' for the fun of it, but rather to exercise my right to reply to yet another vicious and unwarranted attack.
> Suggestions welcome. Try growing up.

The Sheffield lot, as I've said before, are a bit different from the other IAM groups I've experienced - more outgoing, friendly, and 'real world' biking.
Today was my first ride out with just full members, and it was, er, spirited ;)
