No TOG, that's EXCELLENT news. When my old ma broke her leg on one of those
"Pensioner day out" things, we thought she'd loose at least her foot, the
break was that severe, (bones stuck out of her leg) but 3 months after and
she was dancng at the British Legion. She was 69 when she fell btw.

Indeed so. If she's fine through the first 48 hours (as she has been)
that's usually a very good sign.
Depending on what she's like though it may need some drumming into her

***Make sure they deal with it quickly and not faf about. In the
elderly, every day delay in replacing a neckafemur (sp?) adds a week to
the recovery. In the infirm it adds two or three weeks.***
They let my mother lie in pain for 6 days went she bust her hip.
NHS: "We can't operate because her blood pressure is up. We know that
because if we give her pain relief it goes down to normal."
My sister an ex nurse: "Why not give her pain killers and operate."
NHS: That's not our policy.
My sister then demands to see the surgeon.
Surgeon: "We can't operate because her blood pressure is up. We know
that because if we give her pain relief it goes down to normal."
My sister: "Why not give her pain killers and operate."
Surgeon: We have to wait until she is in a stable state:
Sister: "Being alive at 93 *IS* being in a stable state!!!"
Surgeon: "Um? Well? Then we will operate"
The real reason, our mum being old, she was at the wrong end of the list
every time they had an emergency, this and one of their theatres being
down.

Indeed - My mum had the same - but she was on her own on
the living room floor from around 6:00 p.m. until my
brother called around at 10 the next morning.
I hope your mum lives in a bungalow or flat, because one
unexpected and eventually fatal side effect was that she
didn't drink enough because the toilet was upstairs and if
she drank she needed to wee - dementia-like symptoms were
eventually diagnosed as dehydration, but she just carried
on going down-hill after that.

My gran's neighbour went through something similar, she was stuck in
an armchair overnight. Her charming son and daughter-in-law left said
chair in situ when they tried to sell the house some time later.

Sounds like the lady who lived next to me when I was a child. Fine
when she took her medicine but as an ex-nurse she refused to mostly,
so she was convinced that a) aliens followed her about the house (so
she stopped drinking so she didn't have to pee with the alien watching
her, and of course ended up in hospital with dehydration) and b) my
dad was sneaking in through a gap in the attic wall to steal her
undies. She phoned us one day and left details of where she bought her
underchunders presumably so that my dad could procure his own supply
instead of stealing hers.
On a similar note, my dad's mum was telling me the other day how she
came to be divorced when dad's dad had a kidney infection and as a
result became convinced that the marriage had split up. He was quite
annoyed that she'd come to visit him, apparently.

This is not good news. A lot depends on her general state of health
but expect 2 months in hospital.
Once they start falling around the only sensible next move is to a
nursing home, falling is usually a sign of some other problem such
as not eating and drinking properly due to reduced mobility and the
associated pain.
OTOH, the wife's aunt had a nasty fall at 92, compound wrist fracture,
moaned like hell about being moved to a nursing home, then survived
cheerfully until one day short of 102.
Give her a GWS from us.
