I wouldn't mind a few for the BMW as it's nearly black & a few well placed
stripes etc might enhance my viewability by others. I'm not interested in
looking like a copper & I'm not keen to advertise others products, but
anyone know if there's a company that makes 'em?

If you would like to give your local vinyl sign maker a call, they
should be able to supply reflective strips/stripes in any width you
want.  Even better, the material comes in what appears to be black in
daylight, but it reflects brightly in headlights.

Unfortunately, I unremember the name of the material.

Ideal for Zebra stripes that would work whatever the lighting
conditions.

I couldn't.... could I?

Search google for "black diamond scotchlite" to get loads of
other outlets

respro.com does not list their retail dealers and wants more than
2wheels for the A4 sheet. Bicycle shops possibly a good source as
you see cyclists with Respro masks.

Yellow is also available if you want the daytime look like a knob
effect.

I looked at respro, but f.ck me they do some well gay sh.t.

I like the idea of the black stuff, i'm no wannabe copper, it's funny enough
watching the c.nts part like a scrubbers pissflaps when you fly up behind
them in a reflective jacket (at this time of year I always try to make
myself at least visible)

BTW, this 800gs is a bloody lovely bike, just gets better & better. In
perfomrmance terms, it's not *that* far off a 1150 or 1200 & has much more
nimble handling with 56mpg ;)

I wanted to take a test ride on one. There are a number of hotels in the
Alps that have BMW bike fleets for hire. I stayed in one such hotel in
Austria.  Fortunately, I had the presence of mind to sit on an F800GS
before coughing up my 40Euros. f.ck me it's a tall f.cking f.cker. The bike
had luggage fitted and getting on was comical. Getting off got a round of
applause from the others lurking around the garage.

I'm glad in a way because now I don't want one.

They are *very* tall, but you can get lower seats & to be fair, the
suspension is preset well high at the back. After a few eeks with a fat c.nt
like you on it, there would be a definate sag ;)

I can flat foot mine now, but i was tippy toes at first...

I'll have you know I don't eek at my bikes. My farts are baritone and
manly.

The bike has developed bad posture. The root cause is low self esteem as a
result of being forced to reside up north.

This is the Austrian one I stayed in. Superb location. Superb hotel. Just a
few miles from Landeck.
http://www.weisseespitze.com/ in german
They serve free cake & coffee from 4-6pm which is very civilised. Bar
prices are sensible. Food is pretty good. It's in the middle of nowhere,
half way along a dead end road that tops out at a glacier some 2500m above
sea level. That in itself is a fabulous ride.

There's another one with a BMW fleet in Landeck itself if you prefer an
urban setting. Not stayed there myself but it is okay, supposedly. This
link www.motorrad-hotel.com at the bottom of the page might take you to it.
Here you go:
http://www.hotel-enzian.com/new/start.php?site=ehome&lan=e&ss=home
Most likely, the others listed on that website are good too.

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/members-reviews/wessie01 has got some of my
reviews for various places. One in Switzerland, another in Austria, one in
Limone on Lake Garda.

If you have other areas you want to visit then I might be able to recommend
somewhere. I tend to keep a note of likely suspects as they crop up on here
or UKGSer.

It may be just me, but I don't really see the point in travelling to
somewhere like the German or Swiss mountains and hiring a bike there.

Surely the journey there and back is part of the fun?

I s'pose if you fancied trying out a bike that you don't own or want
to ride, then it works, but to be honest, it's something I don't
'get'. It seems one small step removed from trailering the thing down
there behind a big 4x4.

A lot of their business is hiring bikes to non-Europeans. The hotel
provides maps & all the clothing if needed.

BMW organise test ride weekends there for clubs and the press.

Some people who arrive on a fully laden Pan, LT or similar might like to do
some Alpine passes on a lighter machine or an R-GS. Some of the best roads
are unpaved and would be a bit tricky on a Pan.

Couples arrive on one bike, dump their luggage then hire another bike for
the pillion to enjoy some riding.

BMW have several of these fleets dotted across the Alps so I guess it works
for them. As you are unlikely to buy a new BMW bike I guess they aren't
really worried that you don't "get" it.

Or didn't you read that bit?

Yes, I read that bit but you then went on to say you still didn't get it
even after your own rationalisation, so I provided a list of potential
users of the service.

Try and learn the difference between 'rationalisation' and
'qualification', why don'cha?

TBF, he is a journalist, so is unlikely to be concerned by such

Jolly good, well done, yes, you're entirely right, I'm entirely wrong,
take a gold star and have a bottle of celebratory champagne.

You have an uncanny way of words, when conceding, of making the other guy
feel like a complete cad, a bounder, an absolute shower and *almost* ashamed
at having taken issue!

What you need is the material that road cones are stickered up with and any
decent vinyl graphics company should have it on the shelf. Give 'em a sketch
and they'll churn them out in minutes.

Speak to Cane nicely, he could do you some larger spangley stickers.

They look unutterably gash and they won't stop the c.nts trying to
knock you off.

My Beemer came with huge yellow reflective stripes down its flanks.
They're off now, and I must get around to removing the ones on the
panniers.
