Fella at work bought a Max a short while back. Tells me its giving an 80
mile range???????? and cuts out when switched to reserve, even before its
dried up. Is this the norm. I'd be a tad pissed it was.

Can you source a bigger tank for them?.

Fanks muchly.

The Vmax has a 4 gallon tank. Average mpg for the MAX is 34 mpg or 136 miles
per tank. So that sounds possible to me.

Have him check the petcock filter. They crud up near the bottom, and the
reserve level of gas can't get through.

This fella is the original lump of coal arsehole diamond in a week type. He
won't have a manual. Hence no ideas about whats wrong with the Max.

Gas mileage sounds low but is it stock pipes and carbs and how much hard
driving?

My stock `97 Cdn V-max got 12km/litre when pounding it to just over 17
km/litre steady cruising at 120 kmh.  Carb sync can greatly affect your
gas mileage.

The gas tank is 15 litres, a litre under the 4 US gallons someone
mentioned.  There is no "petcock" for the reserve.  The handlebar switch
bypasses the sensor in the gas tank that switches off the fuel pump when
the tank gets below 12 litres.  The switch should be in the "On"
position for normal operation and "Reserve" for access to the last 3
litres.

If the switch position is not the "cutting out" problem, the handlebar
switches have been known to corrode.  I've never heard of a sensor going
bad.
