Changed the oil and filter on my vstar 1100 and after I finished I started
to wonder if it is possible to put the filter in backwards. I put the filter
in with the opening facing outward. Is this correct or is it the only way it
will fit?

I'm told this is the same engine that was in the Virago 1100, which I ride.

I seem to recall that it is physically possible to get the filter in backwards.
If this were my bike I would go back in and make sure it was in correctly -- the
protrusion facing out.

Again, this is if the engine is the same. They certainly look the same, and my
wife's VStar 650 took the same filter as my Virago.

Spend the $129 for the relocation kit.
It is well worth the money.

Sorry, that was the engine guard. The relocation kit was $199.
Still worth the $s. came with three chrome filters.
