I need to replace the rear tire on my '89 vmax (sheetrock screw). I saw on
a website somewhere a recommendation for the Michelin Macadam 50. However,
the mechanic at the local Yamaha dealer showed me a set of new Macadams he
had just taken off another customer's vmax. He said that the bike developed
a nasty shake in the front at about 60 mph. He couldn't explain why, but
when he put on a set of Dunlop Challengers (OEM recommended), the shake was
gone.
Has anyone else experienced this?
What are the best tires for this beast?
Thanks,

Hi Pete
Most of the shake and wobble can come from lack of air in the tires and
front fork pressure.
as for the tires i place 38 psi in the front 42 psi in the rear. I have no
shake. As for the tires I have Metzler 880's stock front and 170/80/15 in
the rear. It handles very good, although a lot of people say stay with the
stock sizes.
look around on the net for vmax forums and do a search.
Good luck

The best tires for the mighty Max is for sure Metzler ME880, and I am sure
you dont have to feel any wobble at all if you only put in at least 3,2 kg
pressure in the back tire and 2 kg in front.

i agree with others who say, wobble is probably cupped or worn tire.
replace the tire and your bike will be ok again. btw, i'm running stock
size metz.880 on my 03 max and it handles ok.. g-luck & ride safe.

Metzler 880's are good. Stock sizes give best performance although some
use a 170 rear. Use 38 - 42 psi in the front.
