Hello... While riding home a few days ago, I hit a patch of rain that
had a few (very small) hail stones embeded in it. ....I ended up
slowing to about 15 mph. ...And even at that, I had to hold my right
hand above my face to shield it from the beating it took. ...Good Lord,
I only went through a stretch, maybe a mile long, yet my lips were
absolutely numb from the pain when I pulled into my driveway. ...I've
only been driving a short period of time, but what do you experts do,
say if you're on a freeway and something like this happens? ...Grow a
tougher skin? ...Jon

Imagine hitting the tarmac..... wearing a full face helmet is my solution...

You can always pull over for a bit.
My favourite, though, is the Weather Channel.

..It caught me by surprise, as I never take the bike out unless I know
it's gonna be a nice day. ...Also, considering I spent over an hour the
previous day polishing it up. (Geez, pledge does work good!! --Thanks
for the tip from someone on the group here.) ...Unfortunately, this
was the day I had scheduled for my class 6 road test, so the weather was
secondary on my mind. Glad the sun stayed out for my test. ...Jon

Even rain at 45 or 50 mph will feel like hail on your face. My helmet
has a visor that can be snaped-on. I can't be bothered with the visor
when it's nice and warm, but I always carry it in my saddlebag. At the
first sign of rain, the visor gets on duty.

get shelter. under a bridge is good. anything with a roof is
fine.

Leathers and a full-face helmet help, but if the hail gets any bigger
than BB size, you have to pull over and stop. I rode into something
similar a few years ago, and it does sting alright. When I was a kid, I
and a friend got caught out in a Winnipeg hailstorm that beat us
black-and-blue with golfball-sized hail. When they land on pavement,
they bounce with a 'pock' sound, but when they land on you, there's a
'thwack, ouch, thwack, ouch, thwack...' noise.

You stop under an over pass, or exit the freeway and seek shelter until the
storm passes - or at least the hail stops.

I tend to wear a full face helmet which keeps your face and head nice and
dry. It also has the added bonus of stopping my face looking like I've
had a fight with a cheese grater if I was to fall off and keeps my skull
in one piece if that was to happen as well.
But I'm sure you're too tough to need such a girly thing or just to good a
rider, eh?

Why do you feel the need to belittle people who do not wear fullface
helmets?

That is certainly an option, but for those that wear an open face helmet,
stopping under an overpass during a hail storm makes sense.
What made you get nasty anyway? And, why did you flame me instead of reply
to the original poster?
