I've never noticed the rear end as being particularly noisy on mine (2004
non ABS) but the bike definitely has a whinning ( I hope I spelled it right)
sound to it.  I was told that the whinning sound you hear is actually the
sound of the water pump.

If you feel the shaft drive to be noisy, take it back to the dealer  and
tell them of your concerns.  Its always good to get it on the books if you
feel there is a problem.  Then, if you have it fail the day after the
warranty expires, the dealer might be coerced to do something about it.

On mine, the only sound I hear is coming from the engine which sounds like a
small turbine motor.  Kinda feels like it too!  :-)

Ride safe

Are the splines properly lubed. Or are they dry? This is not a factory
defect. This is a dealer defect. It really should not make any noise.
