Oh how I loved my 1975 RD200 Electric, new on my 17th birthday...
before that I had a new purple FS1E on my 16th birthday but what I
really hankered after was a Silver RD 350. Sadly, I got all grown up
with a job and had to commute in the cold and wet and a car seemd so
much more inviting and then girls came along!
So I never did get a RD350 and now, looking at some pics I found
Googling I wish I had... The car was a year old Honda Civic 1200 which
was very quick in its day and then it was replaced with a 1978 MGB
Roadster which I still have today, still with only 30k miles on the
clock. So the spirit of those early bikes does live on in the
incarnation of a classic roadster. And as for bikes? Well, at 44 I got
a Hyosung Cruise II just for the hell of it (and no money whatsoever
£1450 new otr) but its nowhere near as thrilling as that lovely Blue
RD 200 twin that ripped the arse outa Notons and Triumphs and most
250s up to 80mph (save for the RD250) in its day. And that smell when
burning castrol X in it too... Mmmmmmmm!
