Looking for info on the 2005 Road Star Silverado. Im getting ready to
purchase one and im trying to find out if anyone owns one and if there are
any specific problems I should be looking for, before I purchase this bike.

Thanks in advance

Flbiker,
Both my brother and I now ride "05" Silverados and love it! We both stepped
up from the VStar 1100s (I had the Classic and he had the Custom).  We both
loved our V's, but decided to "step-up" and get a "Cruiser".  Neither one of
us has been dissatisfied, except for a few minor problems...The stock
passing lamps touch metal slightly on the left side, which causes a very
slight rattle noise.  Also aftermakert upgrades.....ie....We both had 3"
HardKrome Straights" installed.  Unfortunately the tech re-jetted for the
new pipes (For the VStar you  have to).  For the "Roadie" you do not.  This
caused some problems and both bikes had to be re-jetted again (stock
jetting). With a 102ci/1700cc V-Twin "thumping" between your legs cruising
down the highway...Life is great!!!!  Note: I cannot tell you how many times
I have been asked about my "Harley"....I tell them...1. Harleys are nice
bikes, but I cannot afford, nor maintain them.  2. This is a Yamaha
RoadStar, I paid half as much for it as I would have for a Harley (including
aftermarket goodies/crome goodies). 3. Wrench turning is non-existent.
After I give them this little spiel (which I have done on numerous
occassions), They just laugh and walk away shaking their heads.....

Howdy FL, I'm from Tampa too, actually Brandon(based on your email address
listed)
Go to:
www.delphiforums.com register for a free account, then go to 'RoadStar
Riders' and look for the info on '05's that interests you.

I ride an '03 but from what I've seen/heard there is little difference
between them other than some extra ump and some different suspension set ups
etc..
I'm biased but based on things heard/said I wouldn't let go of my '03 for
four times what I paid for it which was 48% of the cost of a comparable HD.

Man I feel your pain! I found a '79 CX500 for super cheap 'cause it wasn't
running so I bought it. Took me two weeks to figure out that some clown had
reassembled the choke butterflies backwards so when I thought it was
'choked' is was open and vice versa. This explained why it ran like sh.t
when I could get it started. After that had ZERO mechanical problems. I had
a dream of restoring it to factory but finances got in the way so I sold it
and used the money as seed to later buy the Roadie.
The dude that bought it works with my BIL, rides it almost 500 miles a week
and has yet to spend a dime on a mechanical failure- - - - - - - - after a
total of almost 4 years.
I owned a HD for a while, bought three basket cases and built 1 2/3 bikes
from them. Didn't like the ride or the constant tweeking so I dumped all my
HD parts after only 1 year and bought a Kaw.  I like the RoadStar better
than ANY bike I have ever owned or ridden for the ride, ease of maint. and
affordability plus it is just downright fun!

One thing to keep in mind is that the RoadStar and V-Star are totally
different when it comes to 'road feel' because of the engine size difference
and weight. I chose the RoadStar since I'm a 'big guy' and I ride twoup with
my wife who is 'voluptuous'. The larger engine and extended seating make it
easier for me. A good friend has a V-star 1100 and his wife rides a V 650.
The luck and enjoyment they had with their bikes sold me on Yamaha (despite
some of mamma Yamma's lack of customer service) and the Roadie sold itself.
Happy motoring!

I know im a big guy too, thats why im choosing the roadstar my wife has a
yamadog 1100 virago it sat in a garage for over a year when we got it, it
need the cabs redone and the fluids changed, other than that no
main.required, thats another reason for me going back to rice more
dependable, not being stored at the mech. garage. hope to meet one of these
days and go riding together. till later...
