my buddy told me not to buy one of these pieces of crap bikes but, i did
it anyway.
i paid nearly $10k OTD for new 03 MAX in 03. i been nothing but
disappointed with this bike. it rides rough, its heavy, doesn't
handle very well, even at moderate speeds, and leaks oil like a HDshove
head. oh well, sh.t happens. let the buyer beware, V-MAX is not a
good bike. of course, everyone already knows that. i guess i'll be
trading my crap v-max off real soon. btw, i doubt if i ever own
another yamaha. just my .02 worth.

buy a thumper. grt an sr500 and ride, not cruise.

I personally know of one of the earlier vmaxs that was seriously ridden very
very hard, and was modified for more power, and ridden harder. This bike had
well over 100,000km's on it and still ran hard when I saw it last. It is a
power cruiser and if you keep that in mind, it is not heavy and poor
handling. Once you compare it to other power cruisers, you will see that
nothing compares. The vmax is not a crotch rocket and it does not take a
rocket scientist to see that ...... if you don't compare Mr. Max to a crotch
rocket, it will shine every time..... and another thing, Yamaha makes great
bikes!
I suspect Jim probably does not own a Yamaha and is just dogging it to make
his ride look better.

shine every time? only thing i can say to that is, those other bikes
you compare max to, must really be sh.t .
the v-max IS a Two Fisted Bike. riding v-max feels like pushing
wheelbarrow full of bricks. it ain't no more or less. i could put up
with not so good handling max but, leaking oil like a AMF Harley is
something else. i'll be trading my max off SAP. btw, yamaha makes
good musical instruments.

every manufacturer can make a lemon out of millions of
bikes. i have 5 yamay's now, none leak oil, brek down or do
less than i expect. i have a 66 350cc two stroke sreet bike
that has never failed to start and run. all i ever replace
are brake shoes, tires, chains and sprockets. and i'll play
stop lights with you and win.

Maybe it's you. Did you break in properly? Or did you just break it?

Jim,
Sorry to hear about your ordeal with the V-Max. Correct me if I'm wrong,
but isn't a V-Max a cross between a "Croch Rocket" and a "Cruiser"? I know
you are not happy with Yamaha right now......Have you considererd a
"RoadStar" Cruiser? 102ci, cruisers, run great, no oil leaks, nor turning a
wrench. Bike gives one heck of a great ride!!!!

the max is the world's fastest cruiser. 10''+ ET - 1/4mi.. at this
time, the suzuki DL1000 v-strom is starting to look pretty good to me.
