Bike: 1982 Yamaha XS400 "Heritage Special"
Km: now about 10,000
Problem:  Leaking petcock

I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with the petcocks on older Yamaha's.
Gas is spurtting out of the little inlet near the vac connection.  Anyway to
fix this?
...could someone tell me why it's leaking?

a friend said she's repaired her petcock, same problem, by brushing a thin
layer of silicone to the metal edge, then replacing the diaphragm as it was
before...said it worked fine.  Anyone had any experience with ghetto repair
jobs like this? ...I've done it, just letting the silicone cure.  If it
doesn't work I've got the repair kit/ new petcock already ordered.
