anyone else notice that the VStar's headlight *seems* to be dimmer than
most other bikes?
Aren't they almost all 55/60 from the factory??
anyone upgraded to a brighter bulb? (without burning up anything!)

Yep!  I replaced the original headlight with a 55/70 on a 97 Virago 1100
with no problems.  You can't leave the high beam on in stop and go
traffic or while sitting at an idle (its to hard on the battery), but on
the highway its great.

Ride safe

I have the 1100 custom and its ok on dim, but the bright is good I think
compared to others that I've rode with.  Driving lights would be better.  My
brother had the 650 classic and it was much better all around.

Sylvania Silver Star (9003) bulb is the way to go.  Whiter light without
increasing the heat or current load.  Auto parts stores have two packs sales
regularly.

I've put in a 80/100watt H4 bulb.
No problem, the mirror is metal so it wouldn't melt.

The heat should damage the metal, but the plastic connector *is* prone to
heat damage.

Also no problem.
