Does the electric starter make any noise? Do you hear the starter solenoid
clicking?

"Positive charge?" What does *that* mean? A fully discharged battery has a
"positive charge" of just under 12 volts.
If your battery is in good condition and fully charged, it will have 12.8
volts across the terminals after you take it off the charger and let it sit
for half an hour.

There's the battery that supposed to be in your XT225. It's maintenance free,
you can't add water, it never needs it. But, if the battery is ten years old,
it's probably no good any more.

Got a volt meter and a trickle charger?
Charge the battery at 0.6 amps with a trickle charger for about 12 hours.
Check the voltage across the battery terminals with a digital voltmeter.
The voltage should rise to about 15.0 volts.
Disconnect the battery from the charger and let it sit for about 30 minutes
to an hour.
Check the voltage again. If it is 12.8 volts, the battery is fully charged.
If it is down around 12.0 volts the battery is too old, you need to replace
it.

That's right down to the letter........
I have a 1 year old GT9B-4 Battery, it took a 1 month drain, and
it's sort of stuck to 12.1v after 1 week on the .5amp float
charger.....pretty weird since the last times it went sown, it regained
re-starting volts just idling with all utilities on....????

12.1 isn't bad. But I would keep an eye out if it goes low like 7.
Then get a new one. Batteries can't live with out them.

One thing I did was to put a switch in between the headlight and the
system using the existing male/female connectors. The stock battery,
frankly, sucks and with the headlight on it saps too much of the
power. XT's are horrible for cold starts so that just compounded the
problem. By putting the switch in (no cutting needed as there is a
good male/female connector behind the right side of the headlight
fairing), it cuts the load way down and lets th starter crank a good
bit quicker and stronger without draining the battery. It was about a
$1.50 fix that has saved us a lot of grief.
Also, Cycle Gear has a battery that will fit (taller so it takes up
ALL the space in the battery cavity) that is reasonably cheap and has
a lifetime unlimited warranty on it. It also has a few more cranking
amps if I'm not mistaken. Couple this with the headlight switch and
no more starting problems.

I dicked with 3 different types of chargers, and it's on an UPS
recycle float now 12.8-->>14.9-->>12.8.......no vrla gas leaks...they show
as a smooth white liquid/gel around the exhaust port of the battery....
I get a problem with checking the actual Amps with a 10A multi meter
on an 8amp battery, without the amp load, it bleeds off the scale real
quick...maybe 16amps worth (no-load)..
