I would like to know how to remove the seat on a 1998 Yamaha VMax. I
need to access the battery. I popped open the lid to the gas tank and
removed 2 screws (one on each side) and pulled on the seat to try to
remove it. It felt like I was going to break something if I pulled any
harder on the seat. What part of the seat do you pull on? It seems
that the front has a clip that doesn't allow you to pull the front up.

Notice item #7: HINGE ASY

Also items #17: SEAT LEVER ASY  and item 18: SEAT LOCK ASY

It looks to me like you unlock the seat, do something with the seat lock and
then pick up the front of the seat and pull the seat a little forward to
disengage the hinge assembly from two horizontal pins toward the back of the
seat.
