Hey guys,

I am hoping you more intelligent guys can help me.  I am not very
engine savvy, but know enough to be dangerous.  I recently picked up
an old rough looking 3-wheeler and was able to get it running after
quite a bit of work, but had a few questions.

There are some pics in my Google web album here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/kd4hvz/Yamaha3Wheeler

1: I am told it is a Yamaha YTF 185, but can't find any reference to
that model on the web and am wondering if I was told wrong.  I am
wondering if anyone knows models well enough to identify it from my
pics?

2: There is a cable on the right side just above the brake peddle
(circled in the pic).  It has been cut, and I have no idea what it
is.  I am guessing maybe clutch?  Haven't got far enough on the
project to figure it out.

3: There is a plugged up hose on the right side of the carb (circled
in the pic).  Any idea where it is supposed to go?

4:  There is a wire on the left side of the carb (circled in the
pic).  I am guessing choke based on my very minute knowledge of carbs.

Any help you guys can offer would be very appreciated.  I was able to
get it running, but have not had time to go further at this point.

Thanks again.

Looks like it might be a YT125. or 175
Parts Diagram here:

Cable on right side of crankcase is for the oil pump. If it's cut, the
previous owner might have been running pre-mix(oil and gas) of the pump or
cable broke

Plugged hose is probably an overflow hose

Wire was probably for the choke

Look on the side of the cylinder to find out how big the engine is. It will
probably say "123" or
"174" if it's a 125 or a 175.

These pictures are from www.bikebandit.com

Click on OEM parts > Yamaha > 1983 > YT175 and then go down the list of
schematics

The throttle cable split into two parts, one part controlled the carb and the
other part controlled the oil pump stroke.

Could be just a float bowl vent. But if you pull the bolt out and the carb
starts sucking air, you know that it's a vacuum hose that went somewhere to
operate something. Like, some fuel petcocks use vacuum to open a valve and
let gasoline flow to the carb.

The "choke" cable has been cut off. The carb doesn't have a reall choke plate,
there is a
starter piston in the side of the carb and when the "choke" knob is pulled
the little piston allows air to bypass the throttle slide and the carb sucks
gas right out of the float bowl.

RPG & Albrecht,

Thank you so much for the info.  I just got back from camping with my
son so I am going to try to work on it some tonight.  I am going to
study the diagrams and see what I need to order to get this back
together.

Thank you again.  I greatly appreciate the time you took to help me!
